17 Aug 2007 - Gencon 2007 - Day One Results

It's late, not really sure just how late, so bare with me as this is a really quickupdate as I need to head to bed:

Con was fun, enjoyed having a day to truck around the dealers room and check stuff out.

Played in the Afterburn tournament as my token Raw Deal tournament for the weekend. Played Laise, here is the super quick tournament report:

40 Players - Already larger then any tournament at Origins.
$4.50 to enter - set of movie cards for entering the tournament. (Anyone reading this need a set of movie cards?)

Round 1 - John Bingham - Eddie G
I use no show to drop FLAU, pop it, he doesn't have the DTTAH, I drop a Revo Figure 4 Leg Lock, and nuke his low rider, so he looses the let me get a shot in. I keep him at less then 4 fortitude for the entire game, and smash the bajeebuz out of him. After going through the Rechazo, used Precision Heymaker for the Win.
1-0

Round 2 - Jim Sooch - Andre
Jim's the top rated player from 07, and his Andre is solid. He pops "As god intended" on the first turn, my hand is stashed, and he Draws heat to nuke the one card that I get. I spend most of the game drawing a single reversal, passing my turn, and having no hand. The deck was so not meant to deal with Andre.
1-1

Round 3 - Rob Bingham - Jake
Rob is using John's Jake deck, and didn't feel really good about the deck. 4 or 5 turns in he chooses to scoop, drop, and go get food.
2-1

Round 4 - Scott Mackie - Piper
I get the start I need, and Scott's not ready to play in a cell, as it costs him piper. I keep him low through out most of the game, and even as last ditch attempt to get fortutide didn't help, as I kept throwing big scary moves.
3-1

Round 5 - Pat Eshgy - Benoit
This is a replay from the top 8 of the LCQ Afterburn tournament. This time he's prepared for my deck. Sadly, like last time, I top deck a volley this. When I need a maneuver I top deck that too.  I finish it by asking him to draw 5 cards, which he does, and he shakes my hand.
4-1

Round 6 Travis Towns - RVD
This is a replay from the top 4 of the LCQ Afterburn tournament. To keep things short I avoid playing Denville. Match went exactly like this:
Press Slam - Search for press slam
Reverse card on his turn.
Press Slam - Oversold
Reverse card on his turn.
At 40 F - Finisher
Reverse card on his turn.
Ask him to draw 5 cards, he only has 4 to draw. We shake hands.

Finished Swiss 5-1

Top 16 - Nilton Arruda - John Cena (classic) (All players in top 16 get Vince GRA, Your Town, Spinner Belt, and a DI)
This is the longest match of the entire tournament.
There were many spectators, and at this point I'm sure their versions of the match will be more entertaining than what I can describe.  (Tom, Mitch, anyone?)
I win

6-1

Top 8 - Scott Mackie - Piper (All players in the top 8 get a random Revo TK1 Extremist,  New Breed & Only 1 Solution)
Much different match as I don't draw what I need, and he Volley This into Clutch, Apply, Apply.
I fight back woking through his reversals.
He plays Living the Good life, and forgets we're in a cell, and puts 6 of his 9 cards on the bottom of his deck. With three cards left in hand, I just chuck moves at him, and put him away. (Sorry Scott, I know you were tired.)
7-1

Top 4 - Jessie Coates - Edge (All players in the top 4 get a Random TK2 Extremist, New Breed & Only 1 Solution)
This is the first time Jesse and I have ever played (as far as either of us can remember). He's really serious, and plays the deck flawlessly. He has the 0/8 Revo move. I'm not packing Restricted use, it hits. I throw shoot lockup, he throws Edge cutter, and then just pummels the crap out of me from there, including using the edge-o-matic to reverse my precision heymaker.

Final result 7-2 I've had worse tournaments

Players making the finals got both of the Revo 2 TK belts.

Finals - Jesse Coates 7-2 (4-2 in swiss) vs. Mitch Freidricks (sp? sorry Mitch it's late) Playing ME! (I mean Eugene) 9-0

Mitch wins to take Eugene undefeated through the afterburn event at a perfect 10-0
That's cool.

And now... bed.

P.S.  Can't make it to Gencon, but can't wait to get your hands on Revolution 4ever: No Mercy? I've got it on ebay here

P.P.S If you write a tournament report, and want it linked to this, drop me a line, and I'll send people your way.

Nice report. Can I plan on seeing you around Saturday or will you be too busy with UFS?

Oh... under amusing... the UFS and Raw Deal events are in the same room. So yes, even though I'll be playing UFS, you'll be able to see me.

How was Cena run?  Like my Cena deck that I took to Top 16 @ NEQ in '06?

Dunno...was yours a heel that used the 0/5 Strike Actions, and a boatload of revo cards including double your value, double your fun?

Wow sounds like a fun day Brian. So Nilton and noobsauce made it to Gencon eh?

So you're gonna be UFSing the rest of the weekend?

yeah... I have a detailed report from our Hijinx at the world teams championships... 132 players, 44 teams... it was a blast. It's almost 2 am, we've just done the final building of the decks we're using tomorrow. (*crazy* I had so promised that I wasn't going to stay up late tonight, or massively tweak the deck the night before.

I, unfortunately, wasn't really paying much attention during that match. I think I only came over for the last several minutes when he was figuring out if he could find some way to win, so it looks like it's left to one "Mitch!"

its spelled Friederick Antigoth Wink, and I understand we had a lot of late nights at the con.

Late nights are half the fun.
