Wish List
~December 19, 2008 01:40~
It's been longer then I can remember since I've written a "wish list". I remember a certain childhood joy of writing a list of things that I wanted. Without consequence or understanding of what exactly it took for Santa to fill it. Sitting down to write this 2008 wish list is more difficult than I had originally imagined. While this article is destined for the section of the site entitled "Chicken Soup for Antigoth's Soul" the frivolity of this has really struck home.
In the grand scheme of things, I'm lucky. I grew up in a home where despite never meeting my father, I had a family that loved me in their own way. My mom chose to live with my Grandmother and Grandfather. They doted on me and spoiled me. Star Wars, G.I. Joe, Transformers, you name it. I never really knew how fortunate I was. I never went to bed hungry. I never had to have hand me down clothes. I was an only child.
Fast forward to today. I'm in management where I work. I have a home, I have a vehicle, I know where my next meal is coming from. On the other hand there are people who are no so lucky. One person who I work with is putting his life back together after splitting from his wife. He's had to choose between food or rent. It is just before Christmas, and he has recently chosen to eat. He is not sure if they will evict him before or after Christmas. Another employee is supporting himself, his wife, and his 6 kids on less then $12 an hour. I really don't know how he can afford to support all of them. At this time of year we are reminded of those who are less fortunate then us. I live in a city where the number of children who live below the poverty line exceeds 25%. Then there are people who traffic illegally in charcoal. People who destroy the environment, murder, and commit war crimes, and the people who permit it in hopes to survive. I could keep going, but some where, I have to find the joy in the season.
With all those sobering thoughts I turn to my wish list. It's inherently selfish. I figure there are girls who have personal websites where they put up their "gift wish list" and for some reason, strangers seek to fill it. So if they can do that, I figure why not put up my wish list here on TCO? One of these days when I have more gall, I may choose to take out some of the sobering thoughts above, and make this a permanent link on the front page. Without further adieu, here's my wish list:
When it comes to making this list, I'm a beggar, not a chooser. So some of the stuff listed could certainly be used as long as it was in good working condition.
Starting big, and working small.
World Peace would be nice. Mike Huckabee the former Republican Presidential Candidate recently released a book called Do The Right Thing. I can't say that I want the book., but the idea is nice. Dreaming of Utopia isn't such a bad thing.
42" 1080P LCD HDTV - Sure I could ask for bigger. Really, the room that it would be in anything bigger is unnecessary.
PS3 / XBox 360 - I'm currently leaning toward the PS3. That's just me. I want to be able to play Soul Calibur IV, and the Rock Band (Rock Band 1, 2, & the AC/DC Trackpack) series.
Once I get the console, and Rockband, I want the ION Drum Kit to go with it. This is a wish list right?
Moving into the more realistic things:
2 Gigs of Ram for my laptop. My laptop is an Acer Aspire 3003 WLCI I think there's enough of us geeks around that the words "MOAR Power!" will ring with at least a few of you. I've currently got a 512meg stick in there, and I'm thinking two 1 gig sticks would be rocking. I know the new UFS tournament magistrate software would run a lot faster.
The Living End - White Noise - So I hear that the kids now a days don`t buy CD`s anymore. For some reason I still do. Maybe I like physically having that CD in my hand, knowing that even if the hard drive crashes, I`ve still got the music. Then again, when they break into my truck, and steal the CD, like what was done with my limited edition Emotive, & Say something Nasty CDs, it works out all the same. To this day I still haven`t replaced say something Nasty. So that can end up on the list too. (Daria really didn`t like that CD, or Hooray For Boobies, which went missing separately. (Also never replaced)
I want to see the movie Black Sheep I`m not so hot on owning an original DVD or whatever. I just want to see it for the stupidity.
From Raw Deal there is still one card that I am missing to ``complete`` the collection. Cardboard Currency and no, if you`re looking on Ebay where there`s a store selling it for $500, it`s so not worth that. $20 or $30 maybe... but then again, I`m Scottish, and have a skewed value for cards. The HHH and Orton Sigs were the `rarest`of the signature cards. and just because I have this weird collecting obsession, they`d be neat to have. (Wish list - not high up there)
UFS - Well, there is still a bunch of cards I`m hunting for from Set 10:
1X Masamune
2x Queens Guard
2x Death Puppet
2x Defender
2x Treasured Gift
2x Family Heirloom
1x Wind Storm
And Set 11 hits this weekend:
Flames of Fame & Warrior's Dream
A Box or two of either or would be spiffy.
Finally, something I`ve wanted for a while... a USB Turntable it doesn`t have to be an ION turntable. I just want the turntable and the software to start converting my vinyl to MP3. (Plus the motor on my existing turn table is starting to give up the ghost.
Oh, and on stereo components from the past... I`d love to to get my hands on a cassette deck component for my stereo.
Hmmm... It seems these ION people make some impressive stuff.
Anyhow... there... it`s started. My ``Wish List``
P.S. - Seasons Greetings everyone!
