Coming to you live from the Ambrosia Ballroom in the Renaissance Hotel Airport Toronto, we present you with the 2009 Canadian National Championships.

It's currently 11:15 EST. Registration is closed. 40 Players are registered. The last minute overnighted prize support showed up.

Will report more later.

12:47 EST Round 1 Update:
I faced Herr... he beat me. Let the road through the UFS house gauntlet begin.

There are 5 Chun Li's
3 Astrids

We've just done the pairings for round 2.

Crap... I have to play Garret from Calgary for the umpteenth time in a week.

13:49 EST Round 2 Update:
Yeah... so... taking tough outer shell out of my sideboard was a bad idea. get rolled 2-0 accordingly by Turn it on Alex.
Note from Mr. Platinum - 2 players have failed deck checks so far, and have been issued losses accordingly.

4 Akumas
1 Alex
2 Olexas
2 Astrids
1 Cassandra
5 Chunners
1 Gill
1 Hanzo
1 Hilde
2 Jon Herr
1 Juni
1 Mignon
1 Nagasee
2 Ninon
1 Remy
1 Rock Howard
1 Ryu
4 Sakura
1 Seong-Mina
1 Terry
2 Tira
1 Victor
3 Zi Mei

Round 3 pairing are now up.... I get to face Morning Demon. Wheee!

15:39 EST - URP

My tummy is full courtesy of Montana's as we are currently in the lunch break. The tournament resumes in another 20 minutes.
That's the good news... (at least for me)
So Don handed me my ass. Well not totally. At least it was 2-1, so I eeked out a win.
Last night I spent many hours talking with a Mr. Hata about which deck I should run. My gut was telling me to run Water Herr. James managed to convince me that there was no way I could top 8 with it, and that I should run my life Cassie. He then convinced me that I should run no forgiveness, and should drop one of the attacks.

So far No forgiveness is not helping the deck at all, the removing of attacks cost me my round 3 as I didn't have enough stuff to kill with, and his suggestion to not run Tough Outer Shell cost me my round 3. So James... I rasberry you.

I hang my head mightily at my shame of being 0-3. I can only pray for 3 wins to eek out a .500 record, and not be at the bottom of the feeding run.

On a positive note, giant props to FFG for moving heaven and earth to ensure that we had prize support today. Giant props to Steve, Rick, and Jeremy for making that happen.

Anyhow... now to get ready for round 4.

Okay... so Round 4 I get to face Token from Montreal. The lack of attacks bites me in the ass as I can't get enough attacks to be able to finish him first or second game. He beats me accordingly.

At this point I officially join Team Phail. I am now responsible for opening the Manitoba Chapter.

Round 5 I face Bryant S. I gave him a deck of UFS commons yesterday so he could learn how to play the game, and scarily enough, he almost beat me.
This is my one win for the tournament.

Round 6 - I face Hatman, and proceed to get rolled, especially after I couldn't find enough attacks to be able to mount any sort of an offense. He builds up, and then rolls me. Another 2-0 loss.

Bryant wins the Iron Doughnut award and walks away with a box of Warriors Dream. Congrats Bryant. Not bad for getting a chaff deck and getting rolled for 6 rounds.

Top 8 Cut happens... and due to the software being retarded, and not permitting cut and paste... here via the powers of screen shot + Photoshop is the standing, with top 8 cut represented.

Apparently folks are now heading for Boston Pizza. So accordingly I sign off for now, and will return with deck lists and stuff later.

Top 8 starts at 10am tomorrow morning.
