11 Apr 2011 - Canada Votes - 2011 Federal Election

Disclaimer: I am not affiliated with any political party. I am a concerned Canadian Citizen, who is deeply worried about promises I am seeing made during the campaign, as well as attempted legislation that has been introduced during the last two Canadian Parliaments.

04/14/11

According to CTV 41% percent of Canadians want to vote for This GUY

04/11/11 -

Legislation that has been attempted to be implemented by the CPC (Conservative Part of Canada), that they have vowed will be pushed through if they form the next government:

Bill C-61 Copyright Reform from the 39th sitting of Parliament  and Bill C-32 Act to amend the Copyright Act

While the Wikipedia Articles are very short and terse on the above legislation, both are poorly written, poorly thought out legislation. In Bill C-32 a provision was added to criminalize teachers who did not destroy their lesson plans & curriculum after a session of school. So a history teacher, who is teaching about the history of Great Brittan through the middle ages, who does not destroy their curriculum at the end of the year, and rebuild it for the next year, would be a criminal.

There are many great nuggets like that one located within the legislation. Because people see the word "copyright" they have no idea how it can affect them as an every day citizen. Or better yet, people respond "sure, but how do they plan to police such a policy?"

The CPC has an answer for you:

Canadian Tories' campaign pledge: We will spy on the Internet

That's right folks - George Orwell's 1984 Big Brother, currently seen in China, will be making its way to Canada if the CPC gets its way.

So do you like your freedom? Do you like Canada as you know it today? Learn about copyright, learn about electronic policy, and where your local Candidates and their parties stand on these policies.

Goth, is there anything I can do? I know I'm not Canadian and it's not my government, but seeing Stephen Harper in power frightens me. As long as he's in, the Tea Baggers (yeah, I said it. I REFUSE to call them "Tea Partiers") and other right-wing nutjobs will get bolder and take a Conservative government in Canada as proof that their right-wing extremism is being embraced.

I've been begging all of my Canadian friends on the Internet to PLEASE go vote and get Harper out. Anything else I can do?

Educate.

I'm not sure why anyone is voting conservative. I've yet to find anyone who admits that they're voting for the Harper Government. (People have signs on their lawn, but I'm not about to start knocking on peoples doors)

I think the biggest problem in Canada is Apathy and disenchantment from those on the middle and left side of the spectrum.

Another problem in Canada is formerly the main opposition parties Liberals and Bloc have people disenfranchised, so they think Harper is the only way to go.

I'm glad people aren't as afraid of a Layton government as they have been in the past.
