21 Mar 2007 - World Championship Interview Albert Rubio

TCO: Albert, thanks for taking the time to sit down with us today, I really appriciate it. Anything you are not comfortable answering just give us a `next question`. For those readers who do not know you, or how you came to compete for this year`s world championship, tells us your story.

WC Champ: Well, I`m originally from Chicago, but now reside in Southern Cali.  I`ve been playing Raw Deal since Fully Loaded.  I pride myself on building decks for people I actually like and winning with them, regardless of how wack their abilities/cards might be.  I`m not a fan of netdecking, but I can understand why some people might do it.  I`ve won little tourney`s here and there throughout the years, but this past year I won the Western States Heritage Championship at San Diego Comic-Con and later won the West Coast Qualifier.  The turnout wasn`t as big as some of the major qualifier`s in the Midwest and East Coast, but the competition was still fierce.  Needless to say, the WC Champ is here!!!

TCO: We are now just two weeks before the World Championships, do you know who you are going to use?

WC Champ: I`m not sure about all of my decks yet, but I`m pretty sure I`ll be sticking with what got me here, my boy Vinny Mac.

TCO: What decks do you feel are your biggest threat?

WC Champ: The usual suspects of Andre, Piper, Kennedy, etc.

PSYCHO: Hey... can I have $5?

WC Champ: Umm...hell no.

TCO: If you win the World Championship, you get to make your own card. Do you have plans already for what card you’re going to make? Are you willing to share it with us?

WC Champ: Out with New, In with the Old
Reversal: Special

Reverse any card with the Revolution Logo and you win the game via Pinfall Victory.

F:0
D:0

TCO: Has the late announcement of the formats for the worlds impacted your preparation at all?

WC Champ: Not really, but I am happy to see Revo relegated to the Finals.

TCO: Raw Deal seems to be becoming more political over the last year. Has this impacted you at all, do you see this impacting you at all?

WC Champ: I like the fact that people are speaking out against what they believe is wrong with the current state of the game.  A game can only improve with the imput of those who actually spend their money on it and play it.

TCO: Just for the record, what are your feelings on Revolution?

WC Champ: I don`t mind Revolution as a whole.  It did make deckbuilding more difficult and complex, which I like.  Decks aren`t as cookie cutter anymore.  At the same time, I don`t like the idea of my RD Classic superstars not getting any more direct support via SS cards.  I understand that some of the older Superstars don`t really need them, but my beef is with the Carlito`s, Chavo`s, MNM`s, and Kennedy`s of the world.  Overall, one thing I can say for certain is that I don`t like the fact that my player pool was cut in half because of Revolution.  I thrive on competition, and anything that diminishes the amount of people that I have to play against is never good for the game.

TCO: The Mark Laroche Xperience – a great party, or the greatest party?

WC Champ: Meh.

TCO: Besides yourself, is there someone that you’re cheering for this year at the World Championships?

WC Champ: Not really.

TCO: What are your plans for the future?

WC Champ: I hope that the design team makes the appropriate choices to better the game overall.  If not, the game as a whole might not last.  I hope that the West Coast sees some kind of player revival, so that I can continue to lay the smackdown on some candy asses.

TCO: Which is better, Cake or Pie?

WC Champ: Neither, I gave up desserts for lent.

TCO: Will the Saints make it to the Superbowl next year?

WC Champ: Da Bears! `Nuff Said.

TCO: The soapbox is yours. Are there any parting comments you’d like to share?

WC Champ: I look forward to bringing the Championship to the West Coast, but I`d like to wish all of my fellow competitors good luck, and to all a Goodnight, Everybody!

TCO: Goodnight Albert, thank you for taking the time to chat with us today.
