BREAKING NEWS ABOUT WORLD CHAMPIONSHIPS

From the desk of Commissioner D2:

It has come to my attention that recently there has been concern voiced in terms of what it takes to be considered a "World Champion". Some would argue that simply defeating all those put in front of you in the chosen game type would suffice. Others state that in order to consider yourself a "World Champion", you must be able to play every main game type. It is with that in mind that I have decided upon a ruling for the World Championships on Sunday, August 7. No longer will it be four rounds and a format voted out. The World Championships will be Five Rounds, with ALL 5 primary game types (Classic, Virtual Classic, All Access, Virtual All Access, and Virtual Revolution) being played for the five rounds. Each round will be randomly decided, as well as opponents. The Final Four will still adhere to the Best Of Three format.

This is a pretty serious change to make with less then 24 hours to go before qualifers start isn't it? I know I personally am 2/3 of the way to Indy and others are there as is.....at the least adding one more round of play on Sunday could mess with travel plans and with more notice I'd have brought a more serious revo deck. I am not objecting to the change, but this is a SERIOUS shift for Sunday and much insufficent time to adjust......

I would have a minor problem with timing if I was headed to gencon... Alas I am not as a friend DIDNT TELL ME THEY WERE GOING... But I digress... As long as there isnt some big huge revelation with less than 24 hours to gencon next year I'm glad you are supporting the revo format again!

Have fun everyone!!! I WILL be there next year and I will bring my suitcase of RD for some games!!!!

It's not that I mind them supporting revo or the extra round, but suddenly changing the entire format of a tournament when most people are too far into the trip to return
and grab cards for a deck type they thought they could vote out is poor taste.

For the record, next year we will have everything set in stone at least one month before GenCon, just so there is absolutely no confusion.

Meanwhile... damn, wish I could have made it this year... sigh.

Rebuttal:  Showing up to a WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP unprepared for EVERY game type possible during said Championship is just poor judgement.

No more or less poor judgement then changing the format with ZERO notice as people are coming to the event, but hey we're just giving opionons here right Smiley

You call it poor judgement. I call it a calculated risk.

Poor decision due to timing.

I wasn't going to say anything, but then you had to post that rebuttal. As the person who implemented the original opt out format, it was what was necessary at the time to ensure people played the game. I understand that where the game is now is a different place, and that it's time to say "all formats". It's also too late, and surprises like this can end up being called "The Gencon Screwjob."
