Just curious to see if anyone out there has played any of these card games:

24 CCG
Hecatomb CCG
Conan CCG
WWE Slam Attax
NFL Showdown 2002-2003
Herocard Nightmare (not a true CCG, but similar play mechanics)
Herocard Orc Wars (not a true CCG, but similar play mechanics)
Testimony of Jacob Hollow (not really a CCG, but a fun horror themed card game!)

The only one I've tried from the ones above so far is Testimony of Jacob Hollow. It's for 2-6 players, and the theme is you and your fellow players are searching a town called Castle Bay to see if you can discover why all 214 inhabitants were killed. The game is filled with monsters of all sorts, and it's all about trying to investigate different locations, battling creatures, oh... and backstab backstab backstab the other players! lol... The more players, the better it gets! Check it out if you get the chance to find it somewhere... I believe it's OOP, but I found a copy on eBay not too long ago.

I'm definitely interested in finding out more about the other games above though, so if anyone has played them, please feel free to leave some comments on what you thought of them! And how well does the WWE Slam Attax card game play!

Conan CCG = one of the most convoluted, complicated, and arduous CCG's I've ever played.

I had the (mis)-fortune of having to learn it to demo it for Comic Images.

I don't think it ever made it to the second expansion. I played it with a friend who is very well versed in CCG's. I'm not sure if we made it through the first game, or if just quit playing after an hour, and said "Sweet Jesus, I'm not sure I ever want to play that again."

So I've got about a 500 count box filled with starters from the game hiding on a shelf up in my office. I may drag it out one more time in the future, because from what I remember, the art wasn't too shabby.

Well, if you ever have the desire to trade them (not making any offers... don't have access yet!  Grin ) let me know sometime. I'm actually looking to get into the game if possible! Hope it's not that bad! lol

I tried to learn to play it at a Con when it came out, to be all pro-Comic Images and such... after an hour, I had a headache and just left, thanked the game creator for his time, and never looked back, lol.

I've played Rage and Hecatomb. I liked Hecatomb's stacking mechanic and the flavor and theme of the game never really made it feel like "Magic lite" to me.

I enjoyed the horror theme behind Hecatomb, but yes the game was just a magic variant. It did have some cool concepts in it.

Doomtown is an awesome game. The setting is absolutely amazing, and the mechanics of the game are great. Only problem with the game was that at a constructed level the decks got so incredibly broken, that they avoided most of the fun parts of the game, which was getting into shootouts and blasting each other.

Slam Attax barely can be considered a game. you flip cards over out on a 3x3 grid, if your card has higher attack than their defense, you win that battle. keep going till you run out of cards. Add a few points for objects. http://www.toppswwe.com/pdfs/how_to_play_uk.pdf if you want the pain of the game.

24 was kinda neat, it had a unique time mechanic as a resource. You used time to play cards but certain events would happen at certain times to affect your gameplay. Another one of those games I played twice.

Completely agreement on Slam Attax, I bought a pack to see the 'new WWE CCG' and was deeply offended, haha.

I've played Overpower WAAAAY back in the day, we're talking the first two sets.  Then they came out with DC Overpower, but they added to the first Abilities (Power, Energy, Fighting if memory serves) with a fourth Ability, Intellect, for guys like Joker and Lex Luthor.  However, this made those incompatible with the first 2 sets, which pissed me off so I gave it up, lol

It was an odd game type, you have a 3-man team and a 4th as backup to fill in when one falls.  You play for missions, which were the same as Win condition points, but otherwise didn't have anything other than flavor heh.  I can't recall all the rules, but basically you'd have a deck with character-specific support cards, and point cards like Energy-5 (so you needed a guy with at least that much Energy skill) and whoever had the higher point total won that mission.

I liked collecting, and only played the game a couple times with my (now ex-)wife back in the early 90s... always did kinda wish I could get a full set, but its very pricey if you can even find it now, lol.

I have a bunch of Overpower starters and cards but I can't understand the rulebook for the life of me. It seems way too complicated, though i remember understanding it when i was 12.

However I picked up a bunch of the WWE Power Chipz and that game is surprisingly fun in a "POG" sort of way.

agree on a set number of star points (example, Orton is 6, edge is 6, Zack Ryder 3, Teddy Long 2, Chavo 5, Primo 5, Hornswoggle 4.....) so let's say 30, then you put them all face down on the table or floor. Roll the magnetic ball at the chips (which have some kind of metal in them) and whichever ones stick to the ball, katamari-style you win. Take turns doing this and the Person with the most points after all is the winner.

the set is HUGE like 146 wrestlers I think, so my friends and I buy them (1.99 for 4 chipz) and use them as tokens in card games. They work really well, having the Usos as my soldier tokens from Hero Of Bladehold.

Rage

Fantastic game. To this day it was one of the highest quality products for CCGs even compared to everything that's been printed today. I'm of course referring to the first edition, before white wolf threw in the towel.

I've still got close to 8,000 cards for the game.

That's cool to hear 24 is pretty fun. I picked up the tactical starter decks set, and I ended up winning an auction on eBay of around 600 of the cards including a lot of the foils and rares for like $10. I'm looking forward to giving it a shot, but to be honest, my gaming days are filled mostly with Aliens vs Predator CCG, Horrorclix, Betrayal at House on the Hill, Testimony of Jacob Hollow, and now of course Raw Deal!! Still looking to get into some of the others like 24, NFL Showdown, and possibly even Hecatomb and Conan... although the guys above now have me somewhat nervous about playing that one! lol

I played NFL Showdown and it is really fun. The game's complexity is good and it simulates the football game very well.

This only bad part of the game is that it is very hard not to damage cards, especially foil rare ones, when you basically have to swipe them through a magnetic card reader to determine the result of plays. Wearing them clear thin sleeves helps a bit but makes the cards harder to read.

Yup... I've picked up more then a few discount boxes of the The Umbra. I've only ever been able to find one discount box of Wurm, and none of Rage over the Amazon, or the other set released after Wurm.

My two favourite decks that I still have together to this day:
Walks with Cheese and Old Storm Cheese go hide in the umbra.
Bunch of cheap wurm weenies go form asswhuping lynch mobs, and wreck buses full of school kids.

A buddy of mine made the final 4 of the Rage World Championships with a Pentex Team 16 (Is that the name of it?) deck... my pile of wurm weenies got nuked by a wildstorm in the the prior round.

One CCG that was actually really good was The X-Files.

It was basically the boardgame Clue in CCG form: you started each game by checking off things in your "X-File", and the objective is for each player to guess what conspiracy their opponent is hiding in their X-File. You then performed investigations to turn up evidence, so to speak, while your opponent tries to thwart you, and vice versa. After you completed an investigation, you'd get to ask your opponent a question to narrow down what is and is not in his X-File. After several questions, you were usually able to figure out what he's hiding.

I remember two cards, "Deep Throat" and "Deny Everything" being able to absolutely determine a game. With Deep Throat, you got to immediately ask your opponent a question about his X-File. And with Deny Everything, you got to refuse answering an opponent's question by saying, "I can neither cornfirm nor deny that assumption." My friend Matt and I eventually passed house rules banning Deny Everything (because quite frankly if you knew what to do, you could seriously hinder an opponent's investigation, and then screw them over even more with that card. And this despite removing itself from the game) and that Deep Throat could not be played until you completed one investigation.

Sadly, the game came out during the late-90s CCG glut and it died after one expansion, which is a real shame because it was a great game.

Oh god... you (QR) just reminded me of the time I was flying back from Gencon. I had my box of CCGs, and one of the CCG's I was carrying was XXXenophia in a box, and I was searched at the Airport, and the Very Large Blacklady was "What's that!" After I had explained what Magic was.

Thankfully her eyes drifted to the X-files CCG that was in my box, followed by "OH! I LOVE THE X-FILES"

So the Xfiles CCG has a soft spot in my heart because of saving me from that very awkward situation.

But... without sounding negative, that actually makes sense, lol

I was a demo rep for many years for X-Files (and later Scooby-Doo). X-Files could have been FRIGGIN HUGE if a) Chris Carter hadn't been an anal retentive douche, changing his mind more often than a pimp slaps hoes about what images and ideas to allow to be used (which caused the expansion to be delayed IIRC 5 separate times), and b) if USPC (the manufacturer of the game as well as the printer of Bicycle playing cards) had shelled out a couple bucks to have Gillian Anderson or David Duchovny or even Mitch Pileggi (Skinner) to do a TV commercial.

The second expansion was developed, but was obviously never released.

The game I've always wanted to play... got a good chunk of cards for it, too... is Buffy.  I like the idea of having a 'mission' style game that also employs a small map, giving it a board game/CCG crossover feel.  But not having anyone locally to play against means my cards just sit in boxes... sigh.
