Ok for those not really watching the news here is something I thought I would share...

First of all here is the link...

http://abclocal.go.com/wabc/story?section=news/national_world&id=8397038

Wednesday night a man who was in severe debt and owned about 50 wild and exotic animals released them before taking his own life. Now people are out posting the pictures of the dead animals on facebook and other social media outlets. I understand their outrage, but the ones that claim that they could have saved the animals are really misinformed. Please if you see one of these people cut and copy this rant of mine to them so they can be shut up and put into their place. Although about half of this is just my opinion the half about the animal tranquilizer is very true, since I worked in a large animal clinic that did surgeries on everything from large dogs to a lion and even an elephant once......

There is no generic animal tranquilizer, the same stuff you would use on a horse would just piss off a bear or lion. The stuff that would work is not very easy to come by and takes a professional to use and administer. The choice was simple; take hours or days to get the proper personnel in to capture the animals alive and risk some innocent person dying or kill the animals and keep the people safe. Now while I am the first person to say the human gene pool could use some chlorine, I do think the authorities in Ohio made the right choice. Regardless, the people who posted that crap need to get a life/education. Just remember, to a 900lb Grizzly bear you are a meal. and by some of the posts I have seen we need to let the Grizzlies go hunting once and a while.

extremely well said John. I am a HUGE animal lover.  can honeslty say that this story ruined my day, i just had a genuine sadness about be. But its night time, and you cannot in any way risk these animals wandering around Its all about sympathy toward the animals until a kid gets mauled on his way to school, or a mother or grandftaher gets attacked as they are returning from work or taking out the trash.

The issue is the owner, simple as that. By opening those cages, and getting even more in depth, accumulating animals he could not properly cae for, doomed them all from the start. tragic yes, but you cant put innocent human lives the majority of whiche are probably good people, at risk.

And in a minor but stall happy finish, the authorities were able to apprehend and save 2 monkeys, 3 jaguars, and a young grizzly. A far cry from what was lost, but at least some were saved, And they are now being cared for at the Columbus zoo.

I don't know if any of you have been to Zanesville, OH, but the only time I've ever been there I said "This town looks like it's falling into the river.  I think the river can have it."
