Does anyone else feel that wins should be worth 3 points instead of 2? I'm not exacting sure if/how I would change anything else, but looking at the top two teams in the west just confuses me.

1st Place: Chicago with 10W, 4L, 3OTL

2nd Place: Dallas with 11W, 5L, 0OTL

So, Dallas, who has more wins and less losses is in second place because Chicago has lost more in OT. This just doesn't make sense to me. Of course, my suggestion of changing W to 3 points puts both teams in a tie, I still feel this is wrong. The team with the most wins, should be the team in 1st!

Currently:

Win = 2 points
Loss (in regulation) = 0 points
Overtime/Shootout Loss = 1 point

Essentially, two OT losses is equal to a win and a loss in points right now.

I would say the best way to balance them and make them go by more wins=more points would be to just take away giving points for overtime losses

Why not penalize overtime/shootout wins?

Have a team get two points for a regulation win, one point for an OT/SO win, and none for any sort of loss.

This is along the lines of what I was thinking. I can see some arguing that a win is a win, so it should be worth the same amount of points.

They should have gone with soccer-ish system; 3 points for win, 1 point for tie, 0 point for loss. North American fans just hate tie games in any non-soccer sports. They even complained when a tie game happened in an NFL game, which there is but it is rare.

I wouldn't argue that its a matter of a win is a win, so much as telling teams that if they have a good, close exciting game, it will screw them on points
