So does anyone here have Marvel vs. Capcom 3 or Ultimate Marvel vs. Capcom 3? I got UMvC3 as a Christmas present from my sister for my XBox 360.

The game fascinates me because of how open the game system is in regards to strategies. I've noticed that a lot of strategies revolving around team composition, use of X-Factor (a mechanic which speeds up your frame rate, character speed, and strength, usable one time per match), combos, and the like are viable and winning strategies. The game's balance is also well done, better than a lot of Capcom's previous efforts. Some characters are better than others, but everyone has their bad matchups (with the possible exception of Wesker, who it seems can take down anyone), and every character has something good about them.

The controls are an evolved Tatsunoko vs. Capcom control scheme, with a button for launcher attacks and combos chaining in specific ways. It's easy to pick up the basics, and with time you can master nice long combos. But the game's as complicated as you want it to be.

The only thing that might frustrate people is that some characters have steep learning curves. Frank West is a particular example, as you need to incorporate his Snapshot move into combos to level him up and make him more effective. Same with Phoenix Wright and his investigating. But if you have the patience, they're both well worth the effort to learn.

Oh, and of course, Deadpool. His presence alone ups the entertainment factor exponentially. I'll just post a couple Youtube links, because it's much funnier when you see it in action:

Exhibit A
Exhibit B

Anyone else up for a match on XBox Live?

I am sure once they get the rights to everyonethe game will be bigger. I mean the series did start out small to begin with them mvc 2 came out and had over 30 characters or a High number of characters anyway.

Mega Man was in MvC and MvC2. He also sucked in both of them. Giving him a break was a bit of mercy on the Blue Bomber.

Not to mention that Zero's popularity eclipses the Blue Bomber's. He was put in and Mega Man fans were satisfied.

Capcom has scheduled to release on 15 Nov 2011 a new disc-only version called: ultimate marvel vs capcom 3 (UMVC3 as follows), which will have:

- 12 New Characters
- 8 new stages
- Improvement in online versus such as spectator mode

The new version will be completely REBALANCED such as X-factor being nerfed. There will also be new moves for characters. Therefore you may need to learn from scratch again for your favorite characters.

The exact and complete changes are not fully announced at the moment. But the retail price is already set at US$39.99. You will get more value for your money if you can wait for November release.

And most importantly...THERE WILL NOT BE A DOWNLOADABLE VERSION FOR UMVC3! You cannot enjoy an improved version without buying ANOTHER MVC3 on disc.

In accordance with Capcom usual tradition, this inferior version will be left obsolete with no more updates. Just like street fighter 4 being abandoned when the super version comes out. In fact, the developers have expressed that a downloadable version is not feasible to incorporate so many changes to the core. A new disc release is the only to go.

With all these being said, you may want to rent this game for the time being and see if the game is worth your money. You can refer to other detailed reviews for the game itself. And remember when the UMVC3 comes out, there could be yet another upgraded version in the future (similar to arcade edition for super street fighter IV).

P.S. I have never written a review on Amazon before. But the disgusted act by Capcom to abuse fans' loyalty is irritating, and this forces me push a review now.

P.P.S. This inferior version may be preferred if you want to take advantage of the unbalanced aspect of the game.

<checks calendar>

I think that we can just go buy Ultimate MvC3 now. As for waiting to see if they do ANOTHER re-release, I sincerely doubt it. MvC 1 and 2 both had no extra editions, and doing a Super Ultimate MvC3 would really come off as a cash grab.

The new features in UMvC3 were SUPPOSED to be DLC (like Jill and Shuma-Gorath are), but their release was delayed due to the earthquake and subsequent tsunami that hit Tokyo this past spring.

After Capcom finally got their offices back up and running, they were gonna just start releasing everything, but the time off for a lot of the employees allowed them to observe how the game was being played worldwide and what could be improved about it. UMvC3 was the end result. And they knew people weren't gonna want to shell out another $60 for an updated version of the game, hence why it's only $40.

UMvC3 was never planned as a cash grab. It was something that happened due to natural disasters causing some unexpected downtime for Capcom as a whole.

Yeah, not so much.

And Zero's popularity "eclipsing" Mega Man? Ummm...Uh...  Roll Eyes

Mega Man was taken out because of the simple fact that he's been in this game multiple times already, and Zero has not..so they changed it up. I would have chosen Bass over Zero personally, but whatevs.

And Capcom has SERIOUSLY damaged it's reputation over the last 5 years with these constant re-releases and cancelling the upcoming Mega Man Universe game..it's really really sad. No matter the reason(s) they had, they've done it at least 3 times in what, two years?

Off the the top of my head:

Dead Rising 2
Super Street Fighter 4
Marvel Vs. Capcom 3

All of those updates/fixes/add-ons should have simply been playtested more or should have been patched/DLC. It's getting depressing.

I couldn't agree more. People keep comparing it to Super Street Fighter 4 and it's simply a no-contest.

WHAT

Who does that? Maybe game mechanics-wise you can. But for impact on video games? Not even comparable. MAYBE if 2021 rolls around and people still play SSFIV competitively, comparisons can begin. 13 years since its release, SFIII is STILL holding competitive tournaments.
