apparently the Detroit Tigers.  As of the moment it has yet to be officially confirmed, but it looks to be a 9 year $214 million deal.
As a Brewers fan who saw her team make a real run at the playoffs last year (and the build up to it the previous seasons) its sad to see him go, but as life in the professional sports world goes, the almighty dollar talks.  I do find it a bit humorous as my friend Tony put it "So much for trying to separate yourself from your father's legacy."

The Tigers better score 10 runs every game Verlander doesn't pitch.  With them moving Cabrera to 3rd for NL games and when V-Mart is healthy, their defense is going to be historically bad.

I smell a V-Mart trade: with his salary fully insured some team looking for monetary relief can trade for him this year and save a year worth of salary space.

At least it wasn't the Cubs.

I just think it's funny all the Brewer fans who are so quick to turn on him and call him greedy and he has no loyalty. Heck I wish he would have stayed but a team like Milwaukee can't afford to pay him half of what he is "worth". I've already seen a picture on Facebook of someone putting a lighter to their Fielder jersey.  Roll Eyes

I think that sort of thing happens anytime a high profile player leaves the team he became synonymous with to go elsewhere, (usually because of the contract offer).  You can't blame the player.  The more successful a guy is on a smaller market team, the harder it will be to retain him when his contract is up.  Rarely you get the guy who is as loyal to the fans as they are to him.  In just about any real-life job, when you get a better offer elsewhere, you're going to take it.  I knew we couldn't offer him the multi-year deal he was after, but was hoping we could throw some cash his way for 1 more season.   Smiley

It's always like that to some extent but I think now everyone wants to play it up a hell of a lot more after stuff like LeBron, Favre, etc. Fielder didn't really have any reason why he should have been super loyal to the Brewers like guys like LeBron or even Pujols did to their teams. He was a free agent and went somewhere else, meh. I'm happy he lasted in Milwaukee as long as he did.

I was really hoping that the perceived lack of bidders would allow the Brewers to get a short extension with him. I was ok with him going to the Nationals or Mariners, but the move to the Tigers just seems a little boring for baseball (unless you're a Tigertowner).  If Cabrera can regain his 3B form and stay out of trouble, that is a nasty 1-2 punch.
