Hmm...is John Morrison's ability supposed to be once per turn?  Can you invoke John Morrison's ability to discard a card even if there are no applicable cards to pick up from your Ringside?

Consider: John Morrison + Showman + discard 10 midmatch on the first turn = win?

John Morrison (Superstar Card)
Starting Hand Size: 7
Superstar Value: 3
Superstar Ability:
During your turn, you may discard a card from your Backlash.  If you do, choose a non-Hybrid maneuver in your Ringside and put it into your Hand.

147/300
Showman
Style
Your Fortitude Rating is +#, where # is equal to the number of Mid-match cards in your Ringside.
You may pack Showman cards.
Unique
Nope, it's an all-you-want rule.  However, it follows in my mind that if you don't have a card to pick up in your Ringside pile, you can't use the ability, since it is implied to be a matter of "you MUST pick up" rather than "you MAY pick up" for that part of the ability.

If that turns out to be the official ruling, then I will find a way to abuse the crap out of it Grin  I'm sure somebody else has already...

I'm certainly not official, TT, but I think you're absolutely right. The most likely precedent would be Leader of the Peepulation (copying in the relevant text):

Leader of the Peepulation (Superstar Card)
Once during each of your turns you may put 1 D:0 card from your opponent's Ring area into his Ringside pile. If you do, put 1 non-unique card from your Ring area into your Ringside pile.

John Morrison (Superstar Card)
During your turn, you may discard a card from your Backlash.  If you do, choose a non-Hybrid maneuver in your Ringside and put it into your Hand.

The Omni-FAQ makes it clear that Peep's ability can be used regardless of having a target in his own ring, so long as there is one in his opponent's:

Leader of the Peepulation
-Due to the wording of his ability, Leader may use his ability to remove an opponent's card, then will remove 1 non-unique card if he is able to.  He is not required to remove a card from his own Ring to remove an opponent's card if he has no non-unique cards.

As both abilities are structured "You may do X. If you do, do Y," then if Peep can do X without being able to do Y, so can Morrison. As long as there are cards in your Backlash, you're free to discard. Then pick up if you can.

As to the other part of this, the ability specifically does not state "Once during each of your turns" or any variant of that, so feel free to do it as often as possible.

Yeah but whereas Hometeam MUST have a face card in ringside for them to put one at the bottom

The difference is in the wording.

Home Team:
Once during each of your turns you may put 1 card from your hand on the bottom of your Arsenal and then put 1 Face card or 1 Fan Favorite card from your Ringside pile into your hand.

Peep:
Once during each of your turns you may put 1 D:0 card from your opponent's Ring area into his Ringside pile. If you do, put 1 non-unique card from your Ring area into your Ringside pile.

HT's version is "You may do X and then Y." Peep's version, and Morrison's, is "You may do X. If you do, do Y." Because the first is all written as one sentence, it's not split up between cost and effect. It must all be done as one action. The second version, meanwhile, is split between cost and effect, and once the cost is paid, the effect takes place as far as it can.

Lackey has Orton's cards mistitled

Lackey Legend Killer should be One Man Dynasty
Lackey The Soccer kick etc should be The Legned Killer
Lackey Cowboy Bob should be Age of Orton
