I heard some realignment rumors for FCS college football which would result in all of the BCS conferences having championship games and which would have three non-BCS teams attain BCS status. Here's what I've heard:

-The Big Ten (which is already a misleading name) will add a twelfth team, split the conference into East and West divisions, and have a conference title game pitting the East and West winners. However, the twelfth team will NOT be Notre Dame. Missouri instead will be invited to jump from the Big 12 to the Big Ten.

-The Big 12 however, will not object to Missouri jumping, and instead use the open slot to invite TCU into the fold. The Big 12 has had its eyes on TCU for a while, and with Missouri's jump, they'll be able to extend an invite to them.

-The Pac-10 will become the Pac-12, split into North and South, and also hold a conference title game. To make it possible, they will invite two teams: Utah and Boise State. Boise State will be place in the North, and Utah in the South. Pac-10 officials believe those two schools are ready for prime time and want to add them ASAP.

-The Big East will also adopt a conference title game and become the Even Bigger East by inviting four schools: Temple, Central Florida, East Carolina, and Memphis. The reason these schools will be invited into the fold is to also get them in both for football and basketball.

That's what I've heard. May or may not happen. I hope it does though.

Does this accomplish anything other than fixing schedules and adding a game at the end of the regular season?

Missouri? Eh it could be worse for the big ten... I would have rather had Notre Dame or Pitt.

Tcu could do good for the big 12, It wont make the big 12 north better though.

The big 10 needs a championship game. I hate having a split championship (of which Iowa has had 2 in the last 10 years)

Well, the way I view it, this is being rumored for two things:

1. To be able to split the conferences more easily so as to hold conference championship games.

2. To attempt to quiet BCS critics by inviting the three strongest non-BCS schools into BCS conferences to try and weaken the anti-BCS arguments.

What I've heard in my area consists of Arkansas leaving the SEC beginning the domino effect, which will never happen.  They would be absolutely insane to walk away from the money they're getting right now.

It actually got a quick mention on Gameday, but mostly its random sports talk radio (local and national).  Arkansas going back to the Big XII from what I remember.

It was an ESPN article by Pat Forde, which mixed in facetious statements with actual rumors. I'll do some searching and see if I can pull it up.

And yeah, leaving the SEC WOULD be incredibly dumb, because like you mentioned, they have the last four National Championships, a great deal with CBS, AND their success has led to gains in recruiting for the SEC as a whole, to the point that they can attract players from outside their area. Mark Ingram of Alabama comes to mind in particular, since he's from Michigan (how BOTH Ohio State and Michigan lost out I will never know).

Big 11 is also talking to Nebraska and Cincinnati.
