1st period, Canada 4 : 1 Russia!

Great game so far. Russia will push harder on offense later though.

Not at all. Rob Luongo is in goal now.

Looking back at it, Canada mostly outplayed us except in goal. Ryan Miller making 42 of 45 saves is phenomenal.

No. Seconding what Queensryche said - Bobby Lou is in net. He's hotter then Broduer. Crasher can elaborate on Brodeur's struggles pre-olympics.

Additionally - Team Canada isn't used to a puckhandling goalie. They weren't providing him outlets or cover. Additionally the guys on Team USA that he has played/plays with  knew how to shut him down. They caught him out of position, and got into his head.

Bobby Lou at GM place has the most home wins of any goalie save for Kipper in Calgary. (Bobby Lou having spent significant time injured last year) He's playing at home, in his building, he knows how the boards bounce, he's in his element.

Hearing the crowd every time he touches the puck calling "Lou!" There is a confidence. That same confidence trickles down to the rest of the team.

Further - Babcock switched up the lines - Crosby is back with Iggy, and they added in Staal. They moved Nash with Richardson and Morrow. Nash is clicking better there.

Team Canada was finishing their hits against Russia. They weren't previously. They were getting guys in down low, and in front of the net.

Previously if you watch (especially the Swiss game) they were trying for the "pretty" goals. Too much stick handling, not enough shooting.

They came out tonight and played Canadian Hockey. They fulfilled the roles they were supposed to. Getzlaf and Perry contributed, Boyle scored, Webber scored.

Additionally they implemented the "Shut down Ovie" plan that Brent Sutter used at the World Juniors. Bang Ovie around, and don't let him play his game. Yes, he's physical - but he's used to dishing it out more then having to take it.

Well, I'm hoping that the gold medal game is a US vs. Canada rematch. The first game was a terrific game and I'm hoping for a rematch because I think it would be an incredible game.

Like I said to others, I was expecting a "good loss" against Canada. I thought we'd lose but that nonetheless we'd do better than most were expecting of us. The win came as a total shock, especially since Miller was getting shelled all game but allowed only three goals. Brodeur's struggles hurt, but I firmly believe Miller gave us the opportunity to win the game.

Only thing is.......it's gonna be tough for me to go back to NHL hockey after the Olympics is over, because the quality of play is phenomenal and I like how the refs are more likely to let them play the game and let things slide rather than have constant stoppages.

mb30's been a reputation goalie since the lockout ended, and personally as a Devils fan I'm kinda THRILLED about the reality of this being brought to light on a HUGE stage like this in the Olympics... no excuses about his defense failing him... even his coach said "we could have had better in goal" when he lost to USA, he's been overplayed (31 games in a row at 37 years old? CMON)... and seeing him sulk and pout on the bench is fantastic!!!

(why am I crapping on my goalie?? Easy... last time he got his ego sat on like this... a better goalie then him... Patrick Roy.. took his spot in the Olympics, it fired him up for a Stanley Cup run, and since the Devils went all in with Kovalchuk, we NEED a ready to go mb30 with one last Cup run, or two, in him..... I just wonder if he's got it in him still anymore.....)

As for the Olympics itself... the Finns are gonna smother and beat the US (which sucks, this is the most likable and fun US Olympic Team I've watched play since 1992), and Canada's gonna pound the Slovaks

I wouldn't say that's a given. If Ryan Miller can stand on his head again, we'll definitely have a chance to win. Like I said, Miller was a BIG reason why we had a shot against Canada, and if he can stand on his head again and not break against Finland, we'll have a shot.

And in that odd manner in sports, the pressure is off of Team Canada for having already lost to USA.  They have been down and don't want that disappointed feeling again, and are now clicking on all cylinders with home ice which is huge in hockey.  USA is seen as the "Must win it now" team after their so called upset, and I see Canada taking them down 4-3 in a close game when it comes down to the finals.

If they get past the Fins, and we get past the Slovaks.  One game at a time.

I dunno, personally I found the Women's tournament mroe fun to watch. Probably because I see most of the people on the Men's side play every night, and the women played so hard.

HOpefulyl the Canada women beating the US ones motivates the US men to strive for gold Cheesy

Or we smother Finland offensively.

6-0 and the first period isn't even over! WE HAVE MORE GOALS THAN THE FINNS HAVE SHOTS ON GOAL. WTF??

EDIT: Two periods over, still 6-0 USA

2ND EDIT: Finland finally got on the board, but that was after Ryan Miller was pulled so he stays healthy. USA wins 6-1 to play for gold!
