Has TCO become subject to auto-join programs? I notice most of these users post nothing, so no harm if that's the case, or our we picking up actual members for some reason that I am blind to?

Why is this happening now if it didn't happen much before? Is there some new technology that gets around spam defenses?

They're able to create the account, but then they can't activate the account because they don't respond to the email that's been sent to them, so they can't post.

54 accounts all awaiting activation - now purged.

Additionally - I've got awesome mods & admins, who the minute any of the spambots jump on the site and post, they're automatically facing post deletion, and banning.

Very good team, that I'm not sure I appreciate as much as I should.

So does the occasional spanner that gets through respond to the activation e-mail? Or do they find some way to auto-activate?

I noticed this too. One day, I saw we had 23 guests, and every single one of them was viewing the most recent post on the site. It's like the bots come in waves at times. However, I have never actually seen a spam post so everyone must be doing something right.

There were three spam posts in the last 24 hours, I think Hurricane and Creed tag teamed them right out.

Yeah I've knocked off 2 myself in the last few days. I'm not entirely sure why all of a sudden they're on the attack after however long without having to worry about it.

It comes in waves. Which probably means there'll be a new update to the SMF software soon to deal with it.
