1  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: Worst Era of Wrestling on: June 12, 2013, 11:11:04 AM
I wanted to comment on a question in the last DoD about the worst era in wrestling history, because I disagreed with the answers given... but not wanting to disrupt the game, it seems better to start a new topic.

My opinion was that the worst era wasn't mentioned, it was the post-Invasion era.  After WCW was bought and ECW closed down, and all the 'extra' guys were let go by WWE, they had no competition and settled into a fairly boring rut.  HHH ruled Raw, had merged the I/C title with the World title so there was only one champion, and tried to be hated with outrageous stuff like Katie Vick or borderline offensive stuff like the Wrestlemania Booker T angle, 'People like you'.

The only redeeming part of the only wrestling company available to watch was the Smackdown Six, tearing it up in all kinds of variations of matchups.  (For those who don't know, that's Angle, Edge, Benoit, Mysterio, Eddie, and Chavo)  But other than that, most guys (especially on Raw) didn't really have storylines, they'd just go out and wrestle.  It was a pretty boring time, and I barely watched Raw back then.

I saw the comments about the 92-94 era, but there's things we remember fondly from then:  I.R.S., Doink, Repo Man, the other wacky characters they came up with.  Sure, it was fairly goofy, but at least there was something memorable...

So what do you guys think, agree/disagree?

CREED

Couldnt agree more. Post Invasion/Draft era was AWFUL.

On top of the sour taste of the invasion, Stone Cold was gone, The Rock was gone, the draft broke up a bunch of great tag teams, 2 title belts was just stupid, ugh it makes me cringe.

My darkest memory of WWE is the Raw with Jericho, Christian, and the Ass Cream. I just remember the payoff to the show being shillouettes of Jericho and Christian running around naked behind the titan tron screen looking for the gym bags. And the faces (I think it was Bubbah, Kane, and Bradshaw) are in the ring laughing.

That was the first memory I have of thinking "OMG wrestling sucks, I might not watch this anymore..."

This is a freakin' travesty. After YEARS (at least thats what it felt like) of striving so hard for a heel turn, I was finally at -4 cowbell.

-4! Thats like Cody Rhodes heat!

And now its over. TCO has essentially wished me well with my future endeavors.

Is there some kind of TNA forum I can go join?  Angry

But in all honesty, It was fun while it lasted. Stupid, but fun. Sayanora cowbell!
4  Everything Else / Rants Forum / Re: STOP BLOCKING MY DRIVEWAY on: May 16, 2013, 11:19:22 AM
I'm more worried the drivers would consider it dick-ish. And you start messing with construction folks, you might find alot more than than just a blocked driveway.

But if they leave you no other option, it's gotta be done.
5  Everything Else / Rants Forum / Re: STOP BLOCKING MY DRIVEWAY on: May 14, 2013, 07:09:15 PM
That would drive me absouletley crazy. And considering it's happened more than once, by this point, I'd be livid.

Considering we've got like 5 construction sites up and running at work on campus right now, I can offer a lil imput.

I'd make an attempt to talk to the contractor or foreman of the project. Ask/strongly urge him to advise any trucks dropping off supplies to make sure they arent blocking driveways. It's difficult because they more than likely arent his workers, but there should be some communication between him and their boss, and part of that should be watch where the hell you park!

If that doesnt work, I'd seriously consider calling a tow truck or the police. It is technically illegal to block a driveway. If you do it here in the burbs, you get a parking ticket. Or towed.

That might be a little extreme, and even a little dick-ish, but at this point, it sounds like theyre starting to interfere with your life.

9  Raw Deal / Welcome (back) to Raw Deal / Re: Holee Sheet on: April 26, 2013, 12:40:19 PM

Guess I will take some time and post the things I don't need from my collection in the trade forums, but I still want to keep a few decks. Is there anyplace in Upstate NY that still runs events or is there someplace online that I can play Classic?

Like I said above, there is a play group in Buffalo that you are welcome to join.  We're trying to do monthly tournaments and we had one already.

Who still plays in Buffalo and where? I havent played a competitive game of Raw Deal in years! Id love to play again!

11  Everything Else / General Chat / Re: Boston Marathon Disaster on: April 19, 2013, 06:57:43 AM
And now one of the suspects is dead and the other is on the loose after they fled from the cops last night.

The suspect on the loose has been identified and apparently he's.........Chechnyan .

This makes the plot even thicker. Why would a Chechnyan want to set bombs during the Boston Marathon?

Going back to opinions......

I dont think the nationality has much to do with it. That is to say, I dont think Chechnya or Chechnyans, in general, have a "AMERICA MUST DIE!" mentality. But for whatever reason, these 2 men had a vendetta, either against America or just humanity in general, and thus, we have this.

We'll see where it goes from here, but I dont see any thick tangled plots emergeing from this.
12  Everything Else / General Chat / Re: Boston Marathon Disaster on: April 17, 2013, 02:30:46 PM
I've always wondered how they would react to someone protesting one of their member's funerals. It is absolutely child like to sit here and say "Oh yeah, well I'm gonna do it to you!" but that group has always bothered me. I'd just like to see what they would do or say.

When Justin Roberts did the end of show goodbye, the sound guy played Fandango's music as everybody left.  EPIC!  Welcome to somewhat of a mini push Dirty Curty.

What the HELL happened during that Fandango match?

I kid you not, my power cut out for about 30 minutes last night. First time its happened in years. Which makes sense....because that was the best Raw id seen in years.

I still dunno what happened, but I just found this on youtube. I dunno if anybodys seen it yet, but take a look if you havent. I cant imagine it'll be up for long.

15  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: [SPOILERS] WM29 Results on: April 08, 2013, 09:53:30 AM
it was a classic "status quo PPV"....not good when it's Wrestlemania.....

Said so simply, and yet so perfectly.

I went back and fourth reading J-Dubs and Creed's posts, agreeing with and arguing with both sides in my head, and for me, the shake down result is this:

4 hours, mostly wrestling; awesome. Big relevent names, titles on the line, etc etc good good good. No stupid segments, no pointless celebritys, no divas who cant wrestle ( and Im not trying to misogynistic, there's been some great wrestling women, its just not of them currently exist in the WWE), good good good.

But then we get to the bad.
Guys not ready to wrestle. I think Johnny C has potential. I saw him at a house show and was impressed and checked out some of his early matches. He can be real good. But who thought it was a good idea to make him wrestle his first real, on tv match at wrestlemania. Bad call boys, bad call.
Boooooooring matches. Not much WWE can do about that (besides not book them, lol) but that seems to be the biggest issue to me. 4 hours (ish) of wreslting is great, but when most of the matches suck, who cares. It could be 10 hours and id say meh. Its one of those things where fans finally got what they wanted (Wrestling at Wrestlemania! woohoooo). But the product was just lousy.

I didnt even feel like the Punk/Taker match was all that great. And its not that I didnt care about these feuds. I wanted to see Punk make it 20-1. I wanted to see HHH break Brocks arm, and yeah, I wanted to see Cena win. But the matches were just.....dull. For whatever reason, I guess i went in expecting the matches to hold my attention a little more. I'm not sure If my expectations were too high, but I feel like I enjoyed last years show alot more.
16  Everything Else / General Chat / Hey Car Guys...... on: April 05, 2013, 09:51:36 AM
Anybody in this lovely community of ours have any automotive expertise?

Specifically, I have a 2006 Ford Ranger that I love and is almost mine.....but the damn thing doesnt have power windows, and long story short, I want them,

I've found a couple kits on ebay to convert the window system to power: anybody ever done it/know how to do it.
If yes, on a level of 1-10, how hard is it? Could I do it myself? And if I could, are these things reliable?

Im relatively dumb when it comes to cars: Change the oil, rotate the tires, new head lights, etc. I dont know too much, so Im trying to see if this is something I could pull off.

Any input is much appreicated.

I heard about this the other day, but I had already posted the link about Chris Masters uprooting a tree with his bare hands.

I figured I had met my quota for posting weird wrestling news for about a year.

Still funny though. That a boy Pac, way to be professional.

Though, Im sure "Jerry" would have taken a quick end to the match, as opposed to X-Pac's Ass Blood on him, lol.

Somebody find mUdVaYnebOy. He seems like he'd be fun to have in a league...

Not to take away from the sentiments being shared, but boy oh boy did Rocky and Dilbert hit the nail on the head.

And luckily, looks like this is going to be done in a way that will ultimately pay respect to Mr. Bearer. Taker and Kane get a little revenge last night, CM Punk strikes back, knocks out Kane, steals the Urn.

Now I'm guessing Taker gets the Urn back at Mania and does one final show of respect and remembrance.

21  Everything Else / Rants Forum / Re: Dumped after a year and a half... on: March 06, 2013, 03:17:17 PM
The key here is to keep yourself occupied. Be busy. Hang with friends. Focus on work.

The thoughts don't go away right away (and some just never do), but keeping yourself busy, both physically and mentally, is the key to the healing process.

Good luck and be well.

VC

Cant stress the bolde enought because I feel like its important. No matter how hard you try, and how much it sucks, sometimes you'll never be completely over it. (I know from experience). BUT, i also must stress that it will get easier. It just takes time. Again, coming from experience. Just do what everyone has mentioned. Keep yourself busy, try as hard as you can to just live your life, and just let time pass. It does get better.

Good luck man.

Just call the Houston Astros.
23  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: Eliminaton Chamber results [SPOILERS] on: February 20, 2013, 02:31:02 PM
I missed the part where I said they were wildly popular, but they were A lot more popular than X-Factor comparatively, and at a better place on the card as well.

Haha there ya go, now that makes more sense. Just about everybody was more popular than X-Factor, so, point is now legit.

As for The Shield (and an end to my threadjack) the concept is good, and so far, they've done 100x better with them than said previous groups (Core, Nexus, SES, etc).  My only problem is, its already old. The total heel angle, for a group like this, is difficult to have success with. The NWO blew up like a Yokozuna balloon because while they were despisable and cheaters, they had that chrisma that made you love them and hate them at the same time. The needs to be something that happens with the Shield that gets them over, if not but a lil bit. Just a little something something. They beat up Vickie. They beat up Dolph, or Big Show, SOMETHING that gets just a small reaction from the WHOLE crowd, not just the smart marks.

Thats my take at least.

Making them 'unbeatable' (in all of 3 matches) is how you keep from having another 3MB on your hands.  Wink

Or New Nexus.  Or The Corre.  Or Straight-Edge Society.  Or....

CREED

Or X-pacs faction. Where it was him, Justin Credible, and Albert.
Yeeeeeeesh.

Except X-Factor was never dominate or popular, they just kind of sucked.

O yeah, I forgot how wildly popular the Core was, lol.
