7  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: Jerry Lawler Collapsed During Raw on: September 11, 2012, 10:18:37 AM
I can't help but wonder, was this Lawler's final match? Will he risk his safety to engage in one more? Godspeed to him.
(snipped)
Wrestling is in his blood. Asking him to give up being in the ever again might be what kills him.

My worst case scenario thoughts were that if he passed away, I am sure this is how Lawler would have wanted it. He is a mainstay of the industry and he has given his life and health for it more than many others of his era. So from the point of view of a veteran wrestler, I think he knew the risks when he put his gear on (as they all do) and didn't even think twice.
8  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: Jerry Lawler Collapsed During Raw on: September 11, 2012, 08:07:29 AM
I considered coming on here to chat about the incident when it was happening but to be honest I was too shaken.

This may have been the most uncomfortable RAW I have ever seen, and that includes both Benoit and Eddie's tributes.

The look on Cole's face when he spoke on Lawler collapsing sent shivers down my spine, and washed away any doubt that this could be a work within moments.

I am far from a Cole mark, but I cannot give the man enough props for being able to sit there and do his job, keep the fans updated and not run out and be by his friend's side. That, my friends, is professionalism.

Watching the match following the announcement of Jerry's collapse with no commentary was eerie  beyond belief. Same with the hype promos for Night Of Champions. It just felt empty.
The crowd obviously was not really into anything, and everyone that performed seemed to be distracted.

Finally during the Punk/Hart/Cena segment that closed the show, Cena was clearly shaken, and it astounded me to hear his normal delivery turn into what sounded like an indie wrestler reading off cue cards.  Eventually Punk and Cena got into character and got the crowd to care but this was such a surreal hour of television that I doubt we will forget this anytime soon.

Having lost my father due to complications from diabetes and seeing him go through the same things described (heart attack) on numerous occasions, makes this a very serious situation to me, but also hopeful that Lawler can pull out of it.
9  Everything Else / Drafts / Re: WWE Fantasy League 2012 Information on: September 08, 2012, 06:17:45 AM
Sounds good to me, however what about run-ins on the main event or valets or guest ring announcers?

Example: Shaemus & Antonio Cesaro in the main event, and Ziggler comes down with vickie to taunt shaemus with his briefcase, causing cesaro to take the surprise win.
Do Ziggler and Vickie get an extra +1 for being involved in the main event? Or is it just the actual match participants?
If it were anyone involved in the match somehow that would make for some really fun point bonus situations. But of course you are doing the scoring so whatever works for you to stay sane Wink

The 6 man rosters sound awesome. I expect more trades and waiver movement due to this.

Is there any plans for adjusting stipulation points? With the new way they are handling some matches being "Decided by the WWE universe", and lots of random stipulations being thrown around, it seems a good opportunity to gain points on otherwise vanilla wrestlers.

So far so good! Very excited for next season, and I have a friend joining TCO hoping to get in at the next opportunity.

In regards for the chat option and preventing adult materials and unwanted things:

Can you make it so there has to be maybe 50 or 100 posts before you can have access to chat? That or make it a "donator only" action Wink Encourage people to become more invested in the site than spamming junk.

Some things I would love to see:

More pointless and fun things like cowbell.
Maybe an option to link your gamertag/Wii/Steam/PSN ID?
Games with leaderboards (ok that is a bunch of work for bandwidth hogging foolishness, but I'd love to challenge fellow TCO members to games.)

Badges for various achievements in profiles. (X posts, X years, maybe favorite Superstar logo, wrestling promotion) similar to Board Game Geek.

I feel that any additions should be tiered, so people can become more invested in their accounts and encourage quality posts on a frequent basis.

So does the Raw "Hug" segment count as a specialty match for points?
12  Everything Else / Drafts / Re: WWE Fantasy League 2012 Information on: August 24, 2012, 08:11:41 AM
I'd personally love to see smaller teams, so there is more action in trades and waivers.
13  Raw Deal / General Discussion: Raw Deal / Re: What do you love most about Raw Deal? on: August 23, 2012, 04:26:14 PM
Raw Deal was a game that changed my perception of Wrestling.
I enjoyed it as a kid, seeing Andre, Macho Man and Hulk on TV on sundays, even got to meet a number of the WWE folks at the archery range/bar my dad and I frequented, which was near Gold's Gym in Cudahy, Wisconsin. (Andre was huge...I remember he terrified me when he picked me up since i nearly touched the ceiling)
As I grew up, I lost most interest in Wrestling, and in the Attitude era I found myself surrounded by Marks of the most annoying order. "IT DOESNT MATTER WHAT YOU THINK" constantly spewed in high school and people getting in arguments over Rock, Austin and HHH. (not to mention the Monday Night Wars prior)

Raw deal changed all that.
I loved card games and I opened a gaming store back in 2001. a year or so after, I met a guy online (hot right?) that was interested in an upcoming game Ophidian 2350. He agreed to meet and play sometime, but he wanted to teach me Raw Deal.

Well after playing a couple games with him, I was hooked. We fully stocked the game at my store, ran regular successful events and the rest was history.

I made lots of friends, met great people in different areas, and forged some genuine relationships over a silly wrasslin' game.

The fact that the community was so awesome is what turned me over to enjoying the product as well as the game. I found people that were mostly normal and reasonable humans that didn't get in a screaming match if you said that you didn't like (Insert Wrestler here). I also found the game as a jumping-in point for the product. I wanted to know why everyone wanted Head. I wanted to know who the crippler was. (my first real deck) I wanted to learn about this Mankind/Dude Love/Cactus Jack character....

What the hell is an obscenely expensive Jeritron 5000?

So it made me tune in. I still do, and I enjoy it with my wife and friends to this day!

We still break out some classic decks and play from time to time as well.
14  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: Summerslam Results (SPOILERS) on: August 20, 2012, 09:49:08 PM
The WWE championship match made me want to flip tables.

Haven't both Punk and Cena beat Show in singles before? Why suddenly is Show this unstoppable monster?

Then we have super cena "beat" big show, and naughty punk steal the win.

What is the goal here, creative? Build heat on Punk?? It isn't working (unless something happened on Raw, had to work) he could punt a baby and the crowd would pop.

Then the final match was so boring and had little drama after all the hype. HHH just looked sad, not a man who was finally fighting someone who had pushed him too far....
15  Raw Deal / General Discussion: Raw Deal / Re: Virtual Only? on: August 20, 2012, 12:22:15 AM
Make it Virtual Only. Everyone has access to the Virtual Cards so there is no reason you can't use them. If you want to use a deck with no Virtual cards then by all means go ahead.

Seconded. Equal access brings out the skill more than hunting down cards from a dead card game that isn't getting any easier to find. Smiley
16  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: *SPOILERS* WWE Raw 8/13 Discussion on: August 14, 2012, 10:07:02 AM
Mostly disagree with your opinions there, Turd, except for the part about punk.  PTP was a solid tag team BEFORE A.W. came along, he just made it better.  Good hype man and such... but they're solid, very dis-likeable, good in the ring - looking forward to seeing more of them.

And I thought the Pit segment was fun, though Piper rambling on at points was a little strange.. like mumbling 'Y2J' during Miz's entrance...  odd.

CREED

That was strange when I caught Piper talking over the entrance and over other people, like he was missing his cues? Just an odd promo.
17  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / *SPOILERS* WWE Raw 8/13 Discussion on: August 13, 2012, 06:37:14 PM
So Cole/JR made reference to JTG's twitter rants on the air, leading me to believe they may be worked after all?....could we be in a new era of worked shoot?

Speaking of twitter, seeing the Prime Time Players come out without A.W just doesn't have the same (or any) impact.
18  Games Other Than Raw Deal & UFS / Gaming Discussion (Everything Else) / Re: anyone still play The Wrestling Game? on: August 11, 2012, 12:49:02 AM
www.thewrestlinggam e.com Back after Raw Deal folded I started playing this game in 2008.  I learned about it here on TCO (under my old handle Tchula), but I see the thread doesnt exist anymore.  They have made a lot of changes there recently, and the game is expected to have an animated version in about a month.  It's a great waste of time. On S1 I am Crimson Rebel and S3 I am Your Mom.  Hit me up on there if youre a TCO person playing TWG.

According to my internets it says it is down/nonexistent.
19  Everything Else / Professional Wrestling Discussion / Re: A.W. Promotions is over. on: August 11, 2012, 12:47:58 AM
Why is it that I never hear anybody complain about The Family Guy which cracks inappropriate jokes about everything, but in the WWE people freak out?

Because Family Guy is ideally targeting an older demographic rather than WWE's TV-PG target audience.

Plus Family Guy is clearly a fictional TV show and no one thinks (at least no one in their right mind does) that it is real, while WWE often is portrayed and some fans still view it as "real" somehow. It lends itself to a different standard.

21  Everything Else / ...the revolution will not be verified. / Re: chris benoit. on: July 27, 2012, 10:28:44 PM
It seems they are using the term "Chris Benoit" as a slang for losing it, more than anything else.  Similar to people using "Go columbine" or "going dahmer" etc.  Not common but it exists.

“It’s about that loss of sanity,” Violent J said during a break in the shoot. “It’s about the snapping, that moment of panic.”

I kind of like the song, the last album was excellent in my opinion, hoping this one is as well.

I am still playing it, just been having a rough time with my 41 Witch Doctor in Nightmare mode. I can't find a build that really feels right to me.

23  Raw Deal / General Discussion: Raw Deal / Re: Raw 1000th episode(spoilers) on: July 24, 2012, 07:07:53 AM
My Highlights:

Miz Girl in the opener. That is truly a RAW moment to remember.
DX Reunion. Never was a fan of DX overall, but I have to say I always enjoy trips and Michaels goofing around, and Shawn's sense of humor/delivery is sorely missed in the current era.

The entire Heath Slater segment.
I make no bones about being a Slater Mark, but this whole angle was executed perfectly, if not predictably. Lita looked great and seeing JBL in the ring again makes me wish he could come back.
Slater may be intolerable for most people but the opportunity to work with so many people that he likely grew up idolizing as a kid has to be a massive honor to him. (and a showing of confidence from creative.)

No Stone Cold Steve Austin.
Many will disagree with me, but there was so much going on in this show, that there is no way they could have given him the screen time that fans would feel he deserves. His appearance would have been welcomed obviously, but unlike the rock, he wouldn't further any storyline to justify his activity. If he were to interact with the rock or any main eventers, it would just fuel the fans speculation of "one more match" at WM29. His presence was felt in pretty much every single clip segment there was as it is.

The Hand - All Grown Up.
Could not believe they went there. At that point I was expecting to see Tim White show up with Todd Grisham backstage.

The Punk/Cena match was disappointing in the finish obviously, but it progresses the storyline and keeps the possibility of a summerslam rematch  between the two, or possibly a four-way. Happy to see Punk lay out Rocky at the close, Could we see Punk/Cena vs the RockShow? Probably Not.

25  Everything Else / General Chat / Re: What is Wrong With People on: July 20, 2012, 12:39:02 PM
I agree in principle Creed. I come to TCO to enjoy the banter, read interesting RD discussion, and other thoughts by community members. Not to get more disturbing bad news brought up. (Especially since it is everywhere in the media right now)

Anyways, I do understand why it would be posted here, and it makes a certain kind of sense. Many of us consider TCO to be "our" community obviously, and when crazy stuff happens in the world we often look to the places we feel safe for discuss it/rant/etc.

As long as we don't get tons of threads about it, and keep discussion mostly confined here, I don't see a huge problem with it. Maybe we need a "current events" forum that we can turn off in our feed if we don't want to read it.

I'll post my feelings later if people are still interested in discussing this tragedy, but I need to think more first.
