I got to play this weekend on the open beta.

Stunning.

I found it far more enjoyable than WOW (which is my only other MMO experience).

I'll probably try and post something more thorough on this later, but it ate my holiday weekend and I don't even care.  If you can get a free demo when it comes out (12/20) it's worth a look.

Was anyone else on the open beta?  If so, what was your experience?

I got to play some of it and loved it. The story is great and the way they did the quest pickup/turn-in was amazing, I'm really looking forward to when it came out. Went and got me the uber edition preordered when the first trailer was released Smiley

I've played a few Trials of WoW (also my only MMO) and it was enjoyable for the most part, but I never dove into the whole guild experience mostly because I was terrified of the horror stories of it being a major time suck. This looks like it could be just as fun if not more so. My only hesitation is with a min $60 price tag and a $15 monthly subscription, I wouldn't want to get into it and then get slammed with another $60 expansion cost every 6-12 months on top of the monthly subscription.

Anyone know if they've discussed how much expansions will cost or will content be added as part of the monthly subscription fee?

If it will be anything like WoW (which has become the MMO community benchmark), expect expansions like every 2-3 years, then being released 6 months late.  Smiley Original vanilla World of Warcraft was about 3-4 years before the first expeansion, if I remember correctly.
Totally worth the cost. WoW plugs in new content regularly without an expansion. A long time guildie in WoW, who hates Star Wars, was in SWtor's open beta, and said its amazing and blows WoW out of the water. He palns on playing it instead of WoW.

I've uploaded some pics to my Flickr account.  Here's some links:

http://www.flickr.com/photos/52041292@N03/sets/72157628200586329/

#1 is just a character shot (Jedi Consular).  Also important is that thing next to me, that Transdoshian (sp?), is my companion.  You basically get a complimentary companion for level 10+ stuff.  Companions also count as "crew" and are the ones that really gain the skills for you.
#2 and #3 are in-combat shots displaying two of the Consular (Sage) abilities: Project (throw something at opponent with the Force) and Disturbance (shoot Force Energy in a huge ball at opponent)
#4 is a shot of inventory and selling some stuff to a medical droid.
#6 is a display of what's called Story Zones.  Basically only a small portion of the world "phases" (for non-Wow players, changes with the state of the game) and they're marked by either a Green (you may proceed) or Red (you may not proceed) doorway.  One thing this does is prevent a Consular from wandering into, say, a Smuggler quest zone.
#7 is an illustration of the BioWare alignment choice system for story conversations.  You get 2-3 options, and usually one is "asshole" while the others range from self-sacrificing Light Side to neutral.  Correct answers not only affect Light/Dark side points, but can also affect your relationship with your Companion if they're with you.

#5 is combat: Force Lifting my opponent as a form of CC.  Consulars in the Beta have ridiculous CC: Force Lift, Project stuns the opponent, there's a Force Stun, and there's one that disrupts enemy casting.  And that's just at level 16 and with one aspect of the Consular (Sage).

Which leads to an explanation of class/race setup.

When you make your character, you get to choose one alignment (Republic or Empire), one race (each side had 4 in the beta), and one class (for Republic, it's Jedi Knight, Jedi Consular, Smuggler, and Trooper).  When my Consular hit level 10, I had to make a permanent choice between two different sub-classes...Sage or Sentinel.  Once I made THAT choice (I picked Sage), I had the choice of one of three talent trees.  So there's something like 6-7 classes within each class.  I chose Jedi Consular/Sage/Healer, and even as a "healer", you do some heinous damage if you choose the right talents.

For those concerned with it (Hi Scott!) I didn't feel like I was forced into playing in groups for the first 16 levels.  It was there, and I had the ability to go for it if I wanted, but it wasn't overpowering or in the way.

I can try to answer questions posted during my lunch tomorrow if anyone has any.

While there are 4 race options for each class, it looks like there are actually more like 6-7 races on each side, its just that human and human with cybernetics are the only ones that can be all the classes. And of course there are some races that are exclusive to one fo the two "alignments" for example only empire get Sith Pureblood and Chiss. Overall it is a really enjoyable game and would be amazing to anyone that is either a decently big fan of Star Wars or that played KoTOR 1 and 2. Even if you aren't one of those I would still recommend to at least try it if they have the option of a free trial.

I'm on Kinrath Spider (PvP server) Sith side. Main toon is Daddyslap (Sniper), but I also rolled one of each of the other 3 classes. Their toon names are Billybob, George, and Lesley. I usually spend an hour or two at night playing unless I get busy (Between poker and spending time with my daughter, I might be on 2-3 nights a week, maybe...). Feel free to hit me up and I'll get you a guild invite.
