I never heard anybody complain about the mechanics you listed.  I know some people quit over Raw/Smackdown superstar specifics. A couple of people didn't like Revolution cards Wink, but backlash, chain, and heat I never saw or heard a complaint from.

In to the So-Cal Raw Deal wayback machine we go Jeremy, though I don't think anyone else other than WC Champ will know any of the people I'm about to refer to. Let's talk about Team "The Best" (Simply the Best was named after them). They were part of playtesting way back around Mania and Summerslam and Velocity. They didn't like Superstar branding. They were also the ones that didn't like remakes being considered different from the original Superstars. Darrian in particular had a hard-on about The Game Superstar being considered different as Triple-H.  Anywho when the Backlash expansion first came out, they were saying how Backlash the card and Backlash decks had ruined the game. But that was a first take when one of them first got hit with 2 Backlashes in one match. I'm sure that given enough time they eventually came around to Backlash decks as interesting new mechanic that helped change the game. As for the Superstar thing, I probably can not speak to, but it wasn't that game breaking either way.

As for Heat, there was an outspoken member in the Santa Barbara playgroup that complained that Heat was too good because it allowed free maneuvers every turn. But like every other new mechanice, for every person that complained, there were 5 others that disagreed, either way people are allowed to disagree and have opinions, quit, whatever. I'm just asking that people try it out and form a more educated opinion before decrying new mechanics as lame.

And lest we have a debate about this (this isn't the Sports forum! haha), let's change the subject completely with a random OMG spoiler:

(Yes, there's no ACE logo on it, but the ACE is identified.. and really, does that card really need a big ol' ACE logo hanging around? haha)

GASP! Its Beautiful!
 Cry  <----- Tears of Joy!

Edit: Lets try making this a worthwhile comment rather than just praise.
I haven't seen Slandered Online used in years  (remember my playgroup is small).  I don't think I've legitimately packed it in a long while either.  I think its a nice touch whenever the designers find use for older cards.
There we go.  That's a better...well... its a comment with more depth, at least.

why do i have to be a play tester to think an idea is lame? maybe i'm just someone who doesn't like face down public knowledge cards in card games. am i not allowed to have a personal preference simply because i'm not a play tester?

sure, maybe it does work well and gives more strategies and other people think it's great or whatever, but that doesn't change that i think flipping cards in raw deal is lame. i have no interest in bash either. mainly because a 'bash headlock' doesn't make sense to me outside the context of a fantasy basham brothers specific, and even then it's weird and unappealing. i see its uses and how it can be good, but i still think it's lame. same thing here.

also, this kinda looks like tokens. you have a bunch of face down cards that are considered 'x'. especially with eve's moonsault generating enchantment there. i'm sorry, i'm not a big tokens guy.

i'm sorry if you're offended by me calling the mechanic lame. but to me, it is. considering how great other ideas in virtual are, maybe i was expecting something more than 'extreme card blanking'. Smiley

Thanks for the kind words about the Internet Title, I was VERY happy to find a good clean picture of it!

And Homeless... I guess my issue is just the feeling that you're moving from 'I don't really care for that' to 'lame' - the word choice leaves a bad taste in my mouth, it seems.  If its not your thing, its not your thing.  With 40 Superstars in the set, its safe to say you can play without using a face-down effect just like you can play around that BASH Headlock you don't care for, heh.

And I suppose you don't have to actually test and play with a mechanic to decide you don't like it... some don't care for Heat even though they've never tried it.  To each their own, of course.

Mostly, I guess my issue isn't with 'I'm not into that idea, personally' as suggesting its bad because you don't like it.  But then, I'm very protective of all the work and creativity we put into these cards, that's no secret... Wink

Drew,
Indeed it was Darrian and his crew that I was referring to about quitting over superstar branding. That seems like an eternity ago. I still remember one of those guys carrying around their cards in a toolbox with a title belt taped to the outside.

lame means failure to be interesting (or cool or funny), and to me flipping over cards in play doesn't interest me.

And my opinion is that coming into the sneak peek thread and making 3 posts that you don't like a new mechanic is pretty pointless, selfish, and dare I say.. lame.  Wink

We've heard your opinion.  You've made it very clear by now.  And as always in Raw Deal, if you don't like a Superstar or mechanic, then don't play it, there's a multitude of other choices.  So enjoy not flipping your cards face-down or playing BASH headlock or playing cards of F: 17 or cards with days of the week in the title or whatever else you don't like, lol.

Meanwhile... If you want to start your own thread about lame mechanics, feel free, but its not right to come in and try to hijack this thread.  Please stop.  You've been heard, you've been acknowledged (probably moreso than was deserved), and nothing is going to change in our design process because of it.  So there's really no point in continuing to hijack the thread to beat the same dead horse, okay dude?  Smiley

Trying to be nice here, but its time to move on.

Anyway, for those who missed it from all the other posts, here's the card we spoiled on the previous page:

EDIT:  Whoops, saw that wrong.. oh well, for anyway who wasn't sure they saw it right the first time, here's another look, lol....

haha... yeesh, you guys, I KNOW who Hawkins is.. from being an Edge-head to his silly cane-carrying NXT self.  He's fired from NXT, but Johnny fixed that by having him and Reks confiscating signs during Over the Limit, so I guess he's hired again, heh

So yeah, I know who he is... I even know about the talent in FCW that hasn't even made it to the roster yet.  Wink  Point is, he's like a -2SV at the moment, he'd need to be active on a major show to make the Raw Deal roster...

As much as I would love to invent the technology that would allow you to print off a card locally.... and that card would change pictures every so often to facilitate this... Cheesy   ... it will likely just be one particular Broski.  So we'll have to use the most famous Broski of the Week and go with that, I think.. Smiley

I was more thinking of a, you get this effect kind of thing from it, and you choose the Broski when you build the deck. Think a generic is in my corner almost.

Zack certainly doesn't need a generic Corner, he has a ton of toys. You won't be disappointed in his set.

And there's a broski of the week that's more famous than Dennis Haskins. It's not the Big O, either.
