Not at all. Kane injured him and Swagger took advantage. Makes total sense to continue the storyline. I expect Ryder to win it back shortly after the Rumble, if not at Mania.

I don't mind that he lost, I just don't like the way he lost.  Kicking out of two of Swagger's finisher before finally going down.

Swagger was ordered by the back to hit his finisher till Cole called it RIGHT (he called it a gut wrench SUPLEX the first time Swagger hit it :p)

and also it showed some vintage "never give up" plucky face traits out of Ryder to take 3 power bomb-suplexes to finally die......

In other news coming from last night, I was wondering why they pulled the sudden title change on Air Boom (not like it matters, heh) without much buildup.  Now I see why:

I forget who posted saying something about Jericho coming out and leaving until eventually he isn't liked anymore, and it really seems that's the way they are going, I would have loved to see Jericho as a face, but I suppose they need a major name heel  Huh?

I believe they're gonna have Jericho win the rumble and his reason for leaving and not ever talking is because he cares only about the title and proving that HE is best in the world....Or something like that. Plus Jericho and Punk fued would be beyond epic in and out of the ring.

Saw this mentioned jokingly on another site, but I could totally see WWE doing this:

Jericho draws #30 to the Rumble and runs around the ringside area cheesing it up with the fans until there are only 2 guys left in the ring. Y2J manages to pull the top rope down  from the outside, managing to eliminate the other 2 competitors and win the Rumble without actually wrestling.

This is NOT the year to give the win to a Superstar that is over (and getting old). This year needs to be the Barrett/Sheamus finals, similar to the Cena/Batista of years ago. WWE NEEDS new stars and these two are so so close to being those stars.

ADR winning last year was definitely a step in that direction, too bad he's struggled in 2011 between having to lose at Mania due to Edge's retirement and his recent injury.

But I agree... as much fun as it would be to see Foley win, they need to push someone new.  Even Sheamus is 'ehhh' as he's already held the WWE title and has been just building up other guys lately.  Barrett would be good, but I don't think they're quite ready to have him as a main eventer (even on Smackdown) just yet.

It IS kind of cool that the Rumble winner isn't a foregone conclusion as it has been in the past, though... probably with having the Elimination Chamber in Feb. to move the title around, they aren't as locked into one match as they were in the 90s and such.

I do kinda like some of what happened with the storyline and such, but I have a really bad feeling they were just using Ryder as a transitional champion.

They've used a LOT of guys as "just" transitional champs over the years. The test is going to be how Zack reacts behind the scenes and how the fans react to Zack in the arena. If he can maintain his following, WWE will give him a reral push.

The Royal Rumble is in St. Louis. The tradition of "wrestler coming back early from injury to win the rumble" will continue with Randy Orton. (See Cena, Edge.)

That's my bet, anyway.

OR

Two of the last three Royal Rumble superstars eliminate each other before number 30 comes out making him the winner by default. Cue Chris Jericho's music after the countdown, with him overacting his win like a gigantic, triumphant victory.

For these suggestions that Jericho win the Rumble after the last two guys eliminate each other, it reminds me of SHIMMER's "Come As You Are" Rumble.

Here's video, so I don't spoil it for anyone: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNEfv21ICec

Also, I could be wrong, but I get the feeling that Zack lost the title because he's being scapegoated for the dropping ratings.

I disagree on  Sheamus. He held the title at a completely different stage of his career. Face Sheamus is one of my favorite characters in years. As long as the WWE doenst mess him up too bad, i think he can maintain this popularity for years to come. And he inst boring or predictable for a big guys. At least i dont think so yet I mean his has his trademark moveset but i dont get that Cena 'Same moves in a row" trend.

Id be ok with a Sheamus victory at the rumble. Id be willing to see how he does as champ again.

I agree on this one. Royal Rumble is the easiest way to inject returning main eventers into WM, and Randy probably the best and biggest name to be the next title contender to either Danielson, Henry, or Big Show.

Apparently Randy is coming back on Friday, though.  That does seem like a bit of an odd choice to me.
