Announcement expected tomorrow.

What do you guys think about this?

I think Manning would be best in Arizona or San Fran

As a Colts fan its sad to see him go. The 49ers are behind Alex Smith and that is the guy they will build the team around. Peyton will go to either Arizona, Miami, Seattle, or the Jets. I say most likely Miami or the Jets. That way he would be closer to his brother.

ESPN claims Washington is in play, as is Kansas City.  Would be an improvement for both teams, and the latter might actually make it work if they lock up Dwayne Bowe with either franchise or a long term deal.  As a Miami fan, I view Kansas City as the closest competitor.

Also, I have a theory that Jacksonville's going to make an (unsuccessful) run at him.  New owner, team having trouble selling tickets, a spot on the roster for Reggie Wayne (cause who else is gonna catch that ball?), and a young quarterback that showed no ability to play at the NFL level as yet.  It sounds like it could be one of those strange matches.

The rest of the teams have some fatal flaw that prevent them from moving forward with Manning...Cleveland, Seattle, and Arizona could all improve by signing him but as someone with some neck problems the cold and rainy weather is a female dog to deal with, and Arizona may not make the Super Bowl with him in their current lineup.  San Fran seems committed to Smith/Kilpatrick.  The Jets could do it, but there's a LOT of factors, and due to their cap situation I don't think they'll be able to sign him and be a good enough team next year...unless they lock him up for 4 years and just say that they'll eat this year until Sanchize is off the table.

No way does Manning wind up in DC. He wants to win NOW. That is something that the Skins are not built for. And, he would have to play his brother twice a year. ESPN has no clue what they are talking about. They are speculating, Oh team X needs a QB so Manning will go there.

Alex Smith is a free agent. And just because they say they are behind him does not mean they will give him another deal ESP with Manning hitting the market.

It should be interesting...Miami would be entertaining, but probably wont happen although snagging Wayne along with him isn't too far fetched as he already has a home there.

I've heard Arizona and Denver being options as Manning likes a controlled environment where he knows what to expect and those two teams can offer that.

All I know is that Manning mania will probably be ten times the media frenzy that was Farve watch.

IF he does actually play again, no way he is going to a cold weather team. And maybe not even a team without a dome, I'd guess Arizona then Miami. I say 49ers and Jacksonville are possible as well.

Any chance he'll just announce his retirement?  I want him to go out like Shawn Michaels, not Ric Flair.   Cry

No, and missing a year injured would not be going out like Flair or Michaels.

Am I the only one who wants to see Peyton Manning come back like Shawn Michaels after his back injury or Ric Flair after the plane crash?

I want him to play for 5 more years healthy as if he never left. I want Manning to come back like gangbusters, lead his team to the playoffs, crush the Colts' chance of making the playoffs in a meaningless games year after year and haunt them like Babe Ruth did the BoSox, get to the Conference title game, and ride off in to the sunset like the Champion and all time great that he is.

Having said that, I don't think any team thats currently mentioned in the running for him could make that happen for him. Washington is a perennial mess but most likely due to the owner's deep pockets, penchant for making big splash FA signings (c'mon Haynesworth $100M anyone?) and their need for better QB play. Miami is just as bad as Washington but couldn't even land Jeff Fisher when pitted against St. Louis, how're they gonna entice Manning when Moneybags Snyder comes knocking on Manning's door? Arizona or KC could work if they didn't have Kolb and Cassel already making longterm money. Unless there's a dark horse that hasn't made themselves known, my moneys on Washington, but none of the above would allow Manning to even contend for a Conference Championship the next 2 seasons without signing his old stablemate Reggie Wayne at least.

I can't speak for most of the other teams on the list, but as a Miami fan, my response to the above:

1) Miami isn't close to as bad as Washington.  They lost as many as five games strictly because Chad Henne couldn't execute this offense and Tony Sparano misjudged a ton of his players, including Reggie Bush.  You'll notice both of those problems are now gone, and while Philbin is unproven as a head coach, Manning would be light years better than Henne.  Plus, the only significant free agent we have (Soliai) may be out of a job if/when the team goes to a primary 4-3 as has been rumored.

2) Jeff Fisher turned down Miami because he wanted a team with a franchise quarterback.  At the time of the decision, Sam Bradford > anything Miami had

3) Stephen Ross, as much as it pains me to admit it, is as big a moneybags owner as Snyder

4) It's widely assumed that Manning will follow the wins and not the money, which knocks Washington right out.

if he joins the redskins theyre almost automatically a playoff team so the wins will come. if someone were to sign peyton and a vincent jackson/marques colston/etc if they dont have a top quality #1 WR, there's a dynamic duo right there. i wouldn't rule anyone out right now, at least of the main teams that were mentioned. ARI, MIA, NYJ, KC, SF, SEA, WAS. any of those 7 would be solid fits for peyton so if he's interested, it will happen

if he joins the redskins theyre almost automatically a playoff team... <snip>

...and that's the issue.  Almost a playoff team.  The Redskins would need to sign him and/or draft Justin Blackmon or another speed receiver (or sign the aforementioned V-Jax) just to talk about contending for Super Bowl, which is what I think Manning is looking for...not just playoff contention, but Super Bowl contention.

I wouldn't rule it out, but I don't think it's going to be a slam dunk for WAS.

Best Move would be to go to ARIZONA or SAN FRAN. Afterwards either team match the tender for Mike Wallace.

Apparently, Marshall Faulk is saying that Peyton doesn't want to sign in the NFC, so he and Eli can't block each other's paths to the Super Bowl.

PFT is reporting that Peyton's agents, CAA, are going to try and steer him away from teams where CAA represents the current starting QB.

Also, the further in the red a team is, the less likely they'll be able to restructure enough money to sign Peyton.

If (huge freaking if, but still, we have nothing but speculation now, so why not run with it) all those random pieces of speculation are true, the options look like this:

BUF - Fitzpatrick's CAA.
MIA - Possible.
NE - Brady, so no.
NYJ - Only have $2M free. No.
BAL - Peyton's better than Flacco, but they won't change.
CIN - Youth movement with Dalton.
CLE - Likely to make a move for RGIII. Youth movement.
PIT - Peyton's better than Ben, but they won't make a change.
HOU - Only $4M free, plus Schaub. Not likely.
IND - Ha.
JAX - Gabbert's CAA.
TEN - Haven't heard them proposed, but are Matt Hasselbeck and Jake Locker really impediments to signing Peyton Manning?
DEN - Tebow's CAA.
KC - Possible.
OAK - $22M in the hole. Not happening.
SD - Rivers is CAA, and pretty damn good.

Now, it's kind of silly to expect that CAA would have veto power or anything, but I can get them not wanting Peyton to supplant one of their guys. IF all this is true, the most likely place is Miami, followed by Kansas City.

Personally, I think he'd be wise to go to SF (Alex Smith's CAA, but again, Peyton will get what he wants, and why not go to a team that good?) or AZ (If only because Manning to Fitzgerald may be the most insane combination in the NFL.) However, I'm more persuaded by the not wanting to block Eli thing than the CAA thing, so I have to think that the AFC seems a much stronger bet.

Alex smith is a free agent. So, if the Niners want to make a play at him they will.

Also, the whole NFC thing is stupid. His options are limited in the AFC. In the NFC, not so much.

I read it as if he only wants to avoid the NFC east leaving Arizona and Seattle as options. Whoever signs him will end up with Reggie Wayne and perhaps Pierre Garçon as well.

Jake Locker may hold up Tennessee from re-signing him.  That depends on their staff and its evaluations.  Again, not sure if that's a team that's a Super Bowl team with him on it even with Reggie Wayne alongside Kenny Britt...it really depends on how they replace Finnegan and how much Johnson really has in the tank.  It isn't a bad thought as they'll have the cap room...but who knows?

As to Houston, I have no doubt that they'll trade Schaub to one of the Manning losers if they're the Manning winner.  Ditto Sanchez and the Jets, if they could find a trading partner.  My thought process on why it won't work for Houston is because their team is based on a very motion-heavy passing game that requires a mobile QB.

Didn't they just franchise him monday? And from what is being reported locally Drew is PISSED cause they did this. He wanted a long term deal and we went into panic mode. I really think this was smart on our part. Mainly we keep him off the market and we have until I think July to come to a final deal. A lot of fans think that all this him turning down contracts isn't him at all but his agent.

Drew knows just how much he means to all of us here in LA. And I think we should reward him for that by giving him a decent contract but also part ownership of the team.( Reason being is that way we are able to resign alot of out key players and Drew still makes a nice chunk of change off of all the games we play in and other areas we the owner makes there money.)

I don't think that's legal (Salary cap circumvention being a big no-no...), and I think Drew's not going to re-sign with us unless we REALLY break the bank next year. Think him asking for $23 million was high? If he comes within 10% of last season's stats this season, he'll command even more next year. With the steady climb of top contracts/salary cap, $25 million may not be out of his reach from a team that really needs a QB.

Peyton's a short-term option (<3 years at best). Brees may have 5-7 more good years in him, barring injury.

(... and the conspiracy theorist wonders if Brees will be specially targeted by other teams... what's good for the Warner and Favre might not be so good for him.)

as a guy from denver, Reports from here are that they are doing their darnedest to try and land Peyton. Doesn't matter if Tebow is here or not. No one can argue that Tebow is better than Peyton and honestly only 10-15% of the fan base would be upset if peyton came in for 3 years

as a bills fan I don't want him at either the Jets or Miami. God how awful would it be to face brady and Manning twice a year.

i feel like arizona would be the best fit at this point, a pretty decent defense along with a top WR, RBs on the rise, a pretty solid o-line, young franchise defensive players(a few), and it'd be in a warm place indoors so no worries about the cold or anything like that. miami could be another possibility but i think arizona is most logical at the moment
