Something I've finally come to terms with in my brain, recently... not only is Cena the face of the company, not only does he sell truckloads of merchandise.. this is a guy who takes the Make A Wish thing very seriously.  He's done over 100 of them himself.  The dudes don't like him, the girls think he's cute.. but the kids... the sick kids, possibly dying... what they see in John Cena - I don't see the WWE taking that away any time soon by turning him heel.

I just don't think we'll see heel Cena at all, at least not for many years.

Reasons for Cena to go heel:
18+ men will like him

Reasons for Cena to not go heel:
He still will get the biggest ovation ever that WWE can use how they choose
Kids will love him
women will love him
he'll sell more merchandise

In the end:
It doesn't matter. WWE chooses to do whatever they want and we sit and live with it. You want to watch wrestling weekly you're going to watch WWE. Don't even give the "I'll watch TNA" bullcrap story. You'll watch WWE or just slowly tune out. There is a very small amount of people that will take the time to explore other avenues (PWG, ROH, Chikara, DGusa, Evolve) and constantly support them.

WWE could have David Otunga win the title tomorrow, hold it for a year, and the majority of fans, even if they hated it, would be tuning in weekly.

The business is drastically different now. There is only 1 company.

Amazingly awesome crowd tonight and minus Ryder getting punked on a lot of levels and Tensai's lukewarm response, it was one of the best Raws in years.

I did't think they were that lukewarm for Tensai.  They chanted "A-Train" and "Albert" for the guy.  Its more than they did for Riley.  Also, how much does it suck to have your return/introduction to the WWE be on the same night as Brock Lesnar's?

Honestly, I'm pretty disappointed by Cena's reaction to his loss.  I can understand why they didn't turn him heel and if he truly does as much for "Make-A-Wish" as they say he does, then I'm honestly glad that they didn't turn him him.  I figure cancer-stricken kids need a visit from a hero more than I need an anti-hero heel to boo.  However, I was really hoping for something more than "I lost, well that sucks, but its not a big thing."

As for Brock Lesnar's return, I want to be happy to see him back.  I want to cheer when his music hits, however I remember how he left.  I hope that after a month I'll look back on this post and think I was foolish to have any doubts, but we'll see.   He's gonna have a heck of a promo to cut on Monday to explain his attack on Cena.  We'll see where he goes from there.

Finally, looks like they are ready to do something with the Funkasaurus!  I'm pumped for this.

Honestly, "I lost, it sucks, but no big" may be the first step in a Cena heel turn anyway. Look at it like this: Cena loses. No big, he has other things on his plate. He keeps losing, keeps shrugging it off, and after a while, it stops sounding like rising above and being the bigger man, and starts sounding like a coward making excuses. Moreover, he stops being the invincible face, and now is actively disdaining anyone who thinks he should care that he loses. Now, while his fans are crushed every time he loses, he simply doesn't give a damn. Eventually, people start in on why he doesn't care, especially when the little kids care so much, and he finally snaps. Something like "Why should I care? A match is a match. It's my job, not my life. After all I give back to the community, everything I've done for these people, these kids, I don't deserve to get bitched out because someone else was the better man on a given day. That's fine; let them be the better man. I'm the better person, and if people have a problem with my losing streak, I don't need them. I'm in this for the people who need a personal role model to believe in, not some mythical hero to cheer for. If I'm not what you're looking for, fine. Look somewhere else. Burn my gear, trash my posters, but piss off. I don't want you in my corner. Go root for the Rock, or Brock Lesnar, or any other egotistical prick you want. I don't need you to validate my self-worth, and if you need me to validate yours, then you don't deserve to have any."

It's a very different type of heel than we've seen in a while, and oddly enough, it still lets him do a lot of the Make a Wish stuff on the side with a certain group of children, since he's established that he wants to be there for those kids who still see him as a role model, he's just telling those who want to watch a boring invincible hero to piss off. I doubt they'll do it, but it could work.

Dil send the WWE a letter and tell thme youre available for a writing position; that speech was great.

Whats funny though, and i think we can all agree, is if Cena DOES goes heel, and he goes this route, the "Screw you all i dont care" method, its only gonna be a matter of time before all the people who boo'ed him because he was such a goody goody, start cheering him because hes finally being a bad ass, so to speak.

Cena is in Hogan and Rock territory now. It donest matter WHAT he does, he gets a reaction. And just like the popular kid in high school, it doenst matter if you love him or hate him, he draws out your emotions.

...which, admittedly, is good.  I'm sure there's plenty of wrestlers who'd be elated to get the kind of boos that Cena gets, rather than getting that X-Pac reaction.  "Ugh, THIS guy... c'mon, I gotta take a piss, then let's see what T-shirts they have for sale"  Tongue

Actually I think Cena heat has been X-Pac heat up until recently.  It was "you are boring, we want to see someone else" heat. I think it's starting to evolve to character driven heat the last couple of months.

And this is why I'll never understand people who say either: "Thank God WCW went out of business" or "I hope TNA suffers a slow and painful death."

It's also why TNA's decision-making seems to be so... off.

Why try to do what WWE does/can do BETTER, using people WWE let go for various reasons (injury, drugs, etc...); when you can create a different balance with a NEW set of stars.

I'm pretty sure 95% of us in here could make TNA consistently watchable, even if only for a month.

I guess I am one of those "small amount of people". I don't watch WWE or TNA anymore, but have switched to watching ROH events.

Seconded. I didn't like some of the storylines and angles that WCW or TNA ran, but the industry needs competition to keep the storylines original and honest. Otherwise, we get whatever they feel like giving us AKA 18 second World Title matches.

I'm in that camp as well, I watch Raw and SD but I also watch ROH's weekly TV show. (Admittedly, I wish that they had more time given to matches but it is only an hour a week so they have to do what they can with it.) ROH has been very impressive with the wrestling that they DO show, which is why I want more of it! I have turned on TNA for short bursts when I'm bored on a Thursday night and Top Gear isn't on, and it just reaffirms to me that they have no idea what to do with their product. I also really, REALLY miss the six-sided ring.

I don't want TNA to die. I want TNA's current incarnation to die so they start doing something that's actually, you know, watchable rather than making my eyes bleed and my brain try to escape through my left ear.

I liked the six sided ring as well, it was just different. Kind of like the old blue steel cage vs. the chain link one. It doesn't change much other than aesthetics.

The six-sided ring also made it easier to do high-flying spots, or so I read somewhere.

Personally, I'm amazed that two weeks in, A-Train hasn't gotten a "Where's your back hair? <clap clap clapclapclap>" chant.
