I have a feeling WWE booked the match to be more MMA esque (which was a huge mistake) but whether or not thats the case....and i cant believe im saying this.....i think Lesnar might have wrestled worse than Cena, lol.
As has been mentioned, he was horribly stiff. And just had no ring skills. I know Cena has a limited moveset, but short of 2 german suplexes, im not sure i remember Brock throwing any legit wrestling manuevers. I didnt expect much going into the match, and even with that mindset, i was underwhelmed. I didn like the finish though. A nice stiff chain shot and an FU on the stairs. Simple, stupid, and sudden, but satisfactory.

Also, cant believe no one's made much mention of the Punk/Jericho match. I thought it was phenominal. Easily match of the night (Sheamus/Bryan was good, but no where near as good as this). Id be willing to see Punk/Jericho round 3 at this rate.

I was going to offer the PPV via FTP link but on second thought, instead of possibly getting TCO in trouble, if anyone wants a link to download the PPV, send me a PM?

Or would that also be no good?

I thought all the matches were great. Well besides random Ryback/Brodus/divas junk. I was at the event and when Ryback came out there were Goldberg chants lol, could you hear them on TV? Also everyone was pissed that it was Layla instead of Kharma.

If Cena was leaving why the hell would they have him go over Lesnar? It makes more sense to keep his losing streak going, get "injured" by Lesnar, go away for awhile then come back better then ever and beat Lesnar, Rock, whoever. But now he wins, says he is taking time off when WWE storyline wise is saying he was injured, and now when he comes back then what? Wins some more? Yawn

I have to admit, the idea of posting yet another 'lawl didn't watch, this sucked' post is kind of silly.  Wink

However, I'm likewise surprised by the results, echoing what JDub said.  It reminds me of the time Batista was injured, but they put him over Orton for the title anyway, only to have Orton win it back the next night on Raw and 'injure' Batista out of action.  I read somewhere that the idea was to have Batista seem like a potential title threat when he came back, but it didn't work out that way on the screen.

Who knows... but Brock's Brock, he'll still be strong after this, and from the reports.. it almost sounds like it was portrayed as a 'fluke' win by Cena anyway.

O yeah, you could hear the Goldberg chants. They were so loud i honestly thought he was gonna Jackhammer somebody.

As for the mystery that is Brock/Cena, the only thing i can figure is theyre gonna play this off almost like HHH/Taker from this past year. Sure Cena won, but he was hurt. He didnt get in trouble with Johnny Ace: he had to go away because Brock injured him. Meanwhile, even though Brock lost, he's stil laround, running wild and kicking ass. Only to have a HUGE showdown upon Cenas return, where he shows his win was no fluke, he didnt need steel steps or a chain, even though he's hurth hes still better, blah blah blah yadda yadda etc.

The only problem with that is that Cena broke the storyline by saying he was taking time off before he/we even knew he was "injured" by Brock and would need to take time off. Now it's "I won, I'm going away/I was already hurt yet still beat you" not "I won but you hurt me".

One thing though is I can totally see Laurinaitis reversing the decision of the match tonight because of when the ref was out Lesnar F5ed Cena and pinned him for a 3 count. So when Cena comes back he has to prove that he can really beat Brock and make the win legit. I'd rather have Brock actually win though and make Cena have to overcome some adversity but whatever.

Playing devil's advocate here, if he is legit injured from that match (not lingering issues which I am sure are there) I am pretty sure most of those guys know "Oh crap...yep thats gonna need time off" when it happens. We shall see what happens.

Cena's win was definitely a fluke.  It wasn't Super-Cena shakes off a beating, hits the 5 moves and wins.  It was very similar to his WM 21 win over Big Show where he couldn't beat his opponent through force, so he got in a lucky shot with the chain and FU'ed his stunned opponent, but in this case he hit the FU on the ring steps.

This wasn't the average Super-Cena hulks up from a huge beating win.

Punk/Jericho had some sick spots and Bryan/Sheamus had good psychology.  I even think the ending to Show/Rhodes was cheesy but a very creative way to get the belt back on Cody.

I didn't even mind the Ryback squash since it was so quick.

So I was listening to our local Rock station's morning radio show and they had a local Wrestling promotor on there with an interesting story...

Apparently the end of the Brock/Cena match, Cena was supposed to be stretchered out ala HHH/taker to make Brock look like much more of a badass.  But then Cena got on the mic afterwards, which infuriated Brock backstage, where he was saying he got screwed Brock is signed for a 5 million dollar 1 -year contract with only 2-per-month minimum appearance, yet they are already worried about Brock quitting.  Also they are leading up to HHH/Brock at SummerSlam, and Cena will leave to shoot Marine 3.

That is what I heard and that makes that shoot-esqe promo at the end make much more sense.

On a personal note, I think Brock is going to run roughshod and get his way untill SummerSlam.

Also, Punk/Jericho was an excellent match.  The best of the show, from the "street fight" attire, the mix of technical, aerial, and hardcore.  The predictable, but still enjoyable interaction with Punk's family.  And dat elbow.....

I can't really blame Brock for being upset. Sure he has a big contract with minimum appearances but he came back with his tail between his legs and let Cena go over him and then he no sells the ending. Even if you don't look at it from Brock's standpoint Cena's speech ruined the whole thing anyways, he said he was leaving but he isn't? Or if he does then we all know it's coming now. Dumb move. I wonder if it's suppose to be some kind of work? But if it is there seems to be no actual point then to confuse everyone about something we didn't know was going to happen anyways (Cena leaving) or it was done just to piss off Lesnar.

I don't believe the reports of Cena ruining the storyline with his promo.  I'd have to go back and watch it again, but if Cena's promo was unscripted, why was the live mic ready?  I assume that its easy to flip on a mic, but its still a decent question.

Mostly though, I don't see Cena screwing up a storyline by doing something like that.  He's always been portrayed as one of the most professional men in the business and I've not seen anything to doubt that.  Ruining the build-up for a storyline by cutting an unscripted promo just seems......foolish, amateur, and unprofessional.

I'd wager money on creative not being sure what they wanted to do, so they told Cena to cut a promo after the match about how extreme it was and how he was leaving, but didn't really give him any direction specifically, so that's why we got the promo we did, which did seem oddly rambling and incoherent for Cena.

Just my musings, not based on any evidence.

Another element: If they didn't want Cena talking, they can kill his mic remotely, cut away, end the broadcast, or any number of other things. There's no way for this promo to make it to air unless WWE Creative wanted it to be there.

I've heard reports that the "blowup" backstage was as much working the locker room as anything else, and I believe it. My suspicion is that the last real "shoot" promo in wrestling (where the subject of the promo was unaware that it was going to be cut, and had no idea of what was going to be said) was at Bash at the Beach 2000.

But the problem is Cena didn't leave, at least not yet, so what really was the point of the promo? It had nothing to do with the match that just took place. I was at the event and to me it seemed like one of those after they go off the air type of promos. I was surprised when I found out that was on the PPV. Maybe they messed up and kept the PPV on the air when they were suppose to stop? When they did fade to black it was awkward. It seemed like Cole didn't really know what to say and it was something like "Thanks for joining us tonight. So long from the Allstate arena in Chicago, good night". How often do they end a show like that?
