It's more likely that you would see wrestling fans react the opposite way and post angerly that a certain match was NOT included. Your example does not fit in with anything I have ever seen, but I'll concede that this is a situation with out parallel.

I frequent the WoW forums. Unfortunately, I see posts by people like the one in LordFa9's example, and worse, every day.

Being that there was no reaction to Benoit appearing on the Elimination Chanber dvd, the example doesn't really hold water. In fact there was so little reaction to his inclusion on the DVD that I didn't even know he was on it until this thread had been going on for awhile.  I see it far more likely that such a fan boy hater would complain that WWE wrecked his DVD by including a match vs John Cena. Obviously WWE isn't concerned about that.

like i said, its a highly wacky and improbable situation, but still, from the point of the WWE, staying safe can't hurt

That's really what it comes down to. WWE wants to play it safe.

You really want to know who they are afraid of offending? Nonexistent Little Jimmys. The "Kids" and the mysterious "They" you always hear about.

"They will be offended"
"But what about THE CHILDREN"

But why? Because they have agreements and relationships with hundreds of companies and organizations to endorse WWE. If any of those groups decide that Little Jimmy and his soccer mom (Let's call her Jenny) could theoretically be offended by a nonexistent problem, they have to back off.

Seems to me, what tends to happen in these situations is pretty simple.
One group with some clout that works with the WWE (Say...make a wish) says "hey we think WWE is promoting murdering your family" so they publicly pull their endorsement since they think Little Jimmy and Mommy Jenny will be offended by the mentioning of Chris Ben- BLACK BOX.  Then other outlets pick up on this and will drag WWE through the same crap they did in the past when this all came up originally. We now have a (admittedly theoretical) situation WWE could have avoided by playing it safe.
Sure us IWC idiots get irritated at missing some fantastic matches and history that has been rewritten for pretend kids and their mommies, but in the end WWE doesn't have to worry about that bit of ugly history rearing its head because they decided to include a BLACK BOX match on a DVD titled "BEST OF THE BEST SUBMISSIONISTS"

Honestly there is no comparison to anything else out there. This is such a unique incident in such a unique industry that there is no precedent to use for comparison, and it is really hard to blame WWE for trying to avoid coming across as "glorifying" what happened.

I don't think the possibility of someone getting upset over Benoit being mentioned is unlikely at all.  A Tarzan action figure was once pulled from the shelves and repackaged because "it looked like he was masturbating" in the box.  I would have never thought that an Al Snow action figure would be removed for "promoting violence against women," but it happened.

Some people live to complain over things.

Seeing something by chance in a store is much more likely than accidentally watching a WWE DVD and knowing the background of Chris Benoit. Not very many non-wrestling fans would even know Benoit's name, let alone recognize him on a DVD.

If I read that right it says Kevin Sullivan?  As in the Kevin Sullivan?  If so, I'm more interested in it being him with his history with Benoit and all.
