7/8/2012:  Raw Dealers!  Attention Raw Dealers!  [/barronvoice]  Are we ready?  We are just under 40 days away from The Best Four Days In Gaming, and our World Championships.  As your Director of Cards (a fun little title I just made up for myself, just now...well maybe not now, maybe about 10 minutes ago, but it was just made up I swear!), there are a few issues I'd like to address at this time, so the questions can flood in and everything is taken care of.

1. Tag Team Tournament

For the first time in years, Raw Deal is going to hold a Tag Team Tournament at...well anywhere!  I realize that not many people still HAVE their Tag logo cards, and quite a few of them...well...suck.  Plus, with this being the first time in forever and a half that we've HAD Tag, people want to have fun!  So, with all that in mind, I'd like to announce the following:

     A.  BANNED LIST
Yes, there is a banned list.  And it looks like so:
          Mr. Kennedy
          Andre the Giant
          "Rowdy" Roddy Piper
          It's All About The Game
          Jump The Bell
          You, Me, and Whoever!?!

You are not seeing things, there ARE two Tag logo cards on this list.  We feel it will help avoid a lot of confusion and questions, plus let things be...well...fun!  And we ARE open to suggestions for things to add, as long as they make sense.

     B.  CONSTRUCTION RULES
          a.  ARSENAL
Didn't you hate that teaming up with Trish Stratus meant you couldn't play any badass big maneuvers?  Well worry no more.  In terms of deck construction, you are no longer binded by your partner's restrictions WITH ONE EXCEPTION!  If you team with RTC, you MUST follow their construction restriction.  You and your partner must still be only 1 brand (Vince is the ONLY exception, not his partner), be Face or Heel (Kurt Angle is the ONLY exception, not his partner), and adhere to the 1 Unique/3 non-Unique rules (Test and Phenom are the ONLY exceptions, not their partner).
          b.  BACKLASH DECK
One backlash deck, shared between the two of you.  If one partner can't pack it, then it can't be packed.  Period.

     C.  VIRTUAL CARDS
          Virtual cards ARE NOT LEGAL.

...with one MAJOR exception.  Within the next week or so, there are plans to release a special mini-set:  A Throwback/Errata of EVERY Tag logo card (except the two mentioned above) that will be legal for tournament play.  Call it a labor of love from your DoC to you.

At this time, I will open the floor to any and all questions, and will handle them accordingly.

Who loves ya?

How are tag teams going to be determined?  Is it random or we choose beforehand?

Is it all axxess or classic? I thought I read it being Classic but didn't see it in the post.

Finally I sort of remember Tag, is there a place where the rules are laid out?

You come prepared with your partner and submit decklists as a team (since you share a Backlash deck and all).

The tag rules are here: http://comicimages.com/rawdeal/rules/tagrules.htm

A couple questions. 1. What day is the tag tourney? 2: why are we allowing Andre? sure you get no backlash and that's a drawback but seriously the Big three suck all around donkey

Friday night, 8PM.

Each player must have their own event ticket.

Format is to be Classic.

I'd like Long John Silver's for lunch.

Andre is being allowed because sure, the deck is large and his BSA card sucks, but he's still beatable.  Plus, you have TWO people kicking his ass!

Keep in mind that while we have discussed the major issues, we're open to suggestions (such as Andre) of potential issues in Tag format.  It's been, literally, years since a Tag Team format event has been run at GenCon.

Lashley + Andre = problems?

Sure Andre has to make a tag to get out once using his BSA card, but if his partner (Lashley) uses Trip or anything that could be hell once Lashley gets involved.

If not, welcome to an idea for somebody. Hell, I might have to join this or some other tourney Gencon weekend.

You just convinced me.  Andre does the usual 'hide the BSC, get Giant Head Butt & (something to discard the opponent's card in hand), fetch Obey with GHB, reverse with GHB to kill the Backlash deck' stuff.. and reversing from hand lets you tag out.  Go Lashley, with a full hand... yeah, that's no good.

We'll add Andre to the Banned list for this.  Good thinking!  Smiley

So, no Superstar specific Backlash cards of any kind (unless they have BOTH Superstar's logos on them)?

No, its fine for .. say, Rock & Austin to have Brahma Bull, What?, Bionic Redneck, etc.

What's not okay is for RTC & their partner to have Taunt the Fans, or Goldberg & partner to have Cow on Ice or Sustained Damage, and so on.

Why?  The original wasn't...

Besides, you can make a tag when you reverse from hand, so cards like this just give you more opportunities for tags.

Thoughts on Surprise Hit? I know it was Errata'd to be RMS which eliminates a lot of abuse, but just thought I'd ask...

As promised, for our players who don't have those old Tag logo cards, or for those who can't be bothered to dig out their closet to find that shoebox  Wink   we've come up with Throwback versions of the cards for the Tag format!

First off, MUCH thanks to our Commissioner D2 (and as always, to Prong1978) for the graphical work.  Now then, here's the files... the .pdf is just a single copy of each card (with a couple extras of the key cards), while the .doc will allow you to edit out what you don't need, duplicate what you do, and so on.

Tag format Throwback cards: .doc/.pdf

Enjoy!

Should Combination Attack be a Throwback instead of errata?  The original wasn't Multi, and it was 14F instead of 15F.  Plus, if this is Multi, is it High Risk + High Risk, or something else?

1) No.
2) It shouldn't be Multi, that's an error.
3) It should be 14F, that's also an error.

Apologies, I'll get the corrected version up tomorrow morning.

By the way, here's the list of the Throwback / Errata versions of the Tag cards.  Couple of notes - an 'errata edition' card doesn't need to be 'cheapened' at all, since its not technically the same card. (If you don't see a change in red, its because old text was removed)  Note that since they were banned from the Tag tournament, and none of the Virtual superstars can pack them, Jump the Bell and You, Me and Whoever were left off the list.

Pop the Guy On the Apron - Throwback
Strike
Can only be played as an inactive player of your team and when one of your opponents has Cheap Shot From the Corner, Trip, Partner Interference, That’s Gonna Cost You!, Double Team, Propel Partner or Jump the Bell in his Ring.
Only your inactive opponent can reverse this maneuver; if he does, your active partner's turn ends and you overturn 1 card.
F: 0     D: 4     Tag logo     (uncommon)

Cheap Shot From the Corner - Throwback
Strike: Heel
Can only be played as an inactive partner after your active partner successfully plays a 5D+ maneuver.
F: 3     D: 8     Tag logo     (uncommon)

Surprise Hit - (errata)
Strike: Heel
Can only be played against an inactive opponent.
Reversals to this card are +4F.
F: 4     D: 7     RMS logo     Tag logo     (uncommon)

Noggin Knocker - Throwback
Strike + Strike / Reversal: Action
Can only be played when your opponent cannot play any title belt except the Tag Team Title Belts, when he has a Manager card in his Ring, or when this is a Tag Team format match.
As a reversal, when you have lower Fortitude, reverse any action if it is not the first action played this turn.
F: 8     D: 6     SV: 1     Multi     (uncommon)

Double Clothesline - Throwback
Strike
When successfully played, a single inactive partner must discard 1 card and after damage is resolved, he may "tag in."
F: 10     D: 8    Tag logo     (rare)

Tandem Vertical Suplex - Throwback
Grapple
Cannot be packed when packing Tandem Atomic Drop.
When successfully played, a single inactive partner must discard 1 card and after damage is resolved, he may "tag in."
F: 8     D: 6     Tag logo     (uncommon)

Tandem Flapjack - Throwback
Grapple
Can only be packed when you cannot play any title belt except the Tag Team Title Belts, or if this is a Tag Team format match.
Choose 1 card in your Ringside, put it on top of your Arsenal, search your Arsenal for any 1 Action, reveal it, put it into your hand, and shuffle.
F: 16     D: 8     SV: 1     Tag logo     (uncommon)

Captive Tag Out - Throwback
Submission / Action
As a maneuver, when successfully played you may overturn 1 card and "tag out".
As an action, you may discard this card and draw 1 card.
F: 2     D: 1     Tag logo     (common)

Combination Attack - (errata)
High Risk
Can only be played after a successfully played 4D+ maneuver.
When played, an inactive partner may discard 1 6D+ maneuver and this card is +#D, where # is the Damage of the discarded maneuver.
F: 14     D: 10     SV: 1     Tag logo     (rare)

Stackplex - Throwback
High Risk / Reversal: Special
Can only be packed when you cannot play any title belt except the Tag Team Title Belts, or if this is a Tag Team format match.
As a maneuver, can only be played after a successfully played 5D+ maneuver or Throw Into the Corner Turnbuckle.
As a reversal, reverse Superplex or From the Top Rope.
When successfully played, opponent puts 2 cards from hand on top of his Arsenal.
This card is –7F when you are the Dudley Boyz or Edge & Christian.
F: 14     D: 10     SV: 1     Tag logo     (uncommon)

That’s Gonna Cost You! - Throwback

F: 0     D: 0     Tag logo     (common)

I suspect you aren't the only one.. Wink As much as we'd like to THINK everyone still has the old cards, so we can finally use them (Hart Foundation, Rockers, etc) sadly its not always the case.

BTW, the corrected file has been uploaded, with the non-Multi 14F Combination Attack.
