So yeah.  I'll admit that I've been an overgrown teenager for many years.  Thankfully, I lucked into a pretty decent job (for a guy with no degree or professional skills).  I've been there 10 years now, and I'm ready to move on.

However, I've had to make a major change lately - my g/f's car crapped out, they think its a cracked head.  So I had to step up and do the thing I really didn't want to do - get a car on credit.  Fortunately, I got a pretty decent deal on a 2005 Neon that's in very good shape.

The downside?  Between the down payment, car payments, insurance, tags & tax estimated at about $500 or so, high electric bills from this Midwest oven BS weather... I've had to cancel my GenCon trip.

Yeah.  I'm not going to be able to go to GenCon.  -sighs-  And I've been really looking forward to it, especially with being able to debut a bunch of new Superstars.  Along with a couple other surprises we have tucked away...  But no, there's just no way I can afford the trip, the hotel, etc.

As it stands, just to get back some of the savings I'd built up in case of emergency, I'll probably be selling off extra Raw Deal cards.  I won't be Mr. Suitcase as much as Mr. Carry On Luggage, lol

I know its all for good cause.  Not having a car has really been frustrating (the last one had a blown head gasket, and here we thought it was a good deal, sigh) and having something that's reliable is good... builds credit, too.  But man it was so much easier not having all these responsibilities, lol.

Especially with my g/f going into the hospital Tuesday to have a cancerous mass removed from her breast, and having to move to a new place next month amidst August midwest heat... the timing is pretty obnoxious.  And now the added stress of wanting to get out of my job and move up in the world - its a pretty hefty weight on my shoulders right now.

Yeah, this is basically me doing some pointless bitching (thus, the Rant forum) and I'm sure people can tell me that I need the just Man The #$#* Up... and I completely agree.  Just taking a moment to bask in the annoyance of it all before I get back in gear again... lol

Argh.  Thanks guys...

If I thought it would help I would share my room with you free of charge. there are only two beds  but we could work out a rotation. If that would help you go let me know.

I'm sorry to hear about you having to cancel your trip. I do hope your gf is ok and everything turns out well, can be a very scary thing to go through. And living in Saint Joseph, MO I totally feel you on the midwest oven bs heat thing, we were excited the other day about it only being a high of 92.

heh, thanks guys, that's really nice of you!  But at this point, its actually better that I don't go.  I've given a long-term notice at my job, because its time for me to leave my 'getting by' job and move into a more 'get serious' job.  So being in town for the next two months will be important to train my replacement.  (Plus, they pay me for unused vacation when I leave, so that can go towards paying off my car, moving expenses, etc.)

It's all good, sometimes things happen for a reason...  Smiley

Yeah, that's kinda shady.. funny in concept, though, haha

And now, clearly NOT going to GenCon was the right move.  A few months ago, my g/f (Gem) tested positive on a routine drug test... for a prescription drug that isn't even on the market anymore.  They tried to fire her, but she jumped through all the hoops and paid $150 out of pocket to get the sample retested by another lab.  The second lab correctly identified what it was (something Gem was given at the ER after her car accident, and had paperwork to prove) - but her boss was pissed about being proven wrong.

So this b*tch has had it in for Gem for a couple months now... fortunately, Gem has been getting commendations and special recognition, so her boss's boss (Jason) has been making sure Gem's immediate boss didn't do something shady to get rid of her.  Well, Jason's out of town for three weeks - so this douche fires her today for calling in sick last week, while Gem's in the middle of her shift.

Gem's filing a grievance, texted Jason to tell him what happened, filed for unemployment, started putting in applications at other places, all the obvious stuff.  But this really sucks because we still need to find a new place to live by the end of the month, and now Gem's part of the application looks worse because she doesn't have a job.

So yeah, it was a good thing I didn't commit to spending money and being out of town this week...  just so sick of this crap...  -sighs-  </rant>

Oh, I've contemplated tracking this snotty b*tch down and introducing her to my knife collection, lol.  Make her outside as ugly as her inside...

Alas, the last thing we need right now is me behind bars, so...

It's just frustrating and stupid because Gem's been COMMENDED by the hospital she works for... she did things like buy a little food, out of her own pocket, for the poor family of a patient waiting to be released.  She's exemplary at caring for patients and their families, putting them at ease - but hey, this $%#$% of a boss got proven wrong over a drug test, so let's throw all that away...

Life sucks some days...

If the grievance works well enough, and the PHB is acknowledged by the people in charge as the real problem, your g/f may end up with her old boss's job instead. Now that'd be a silver lining.

Sorry to hear about the crap you've been going through, Creed. Best of luck with it all, and hopefully it straightens out soon.

The odds of winning a grievance are like winning the lottery. It happens, but not often. It doesn't even matter who was right or wrong, just the procedures followed.
