I didnt' get to see Raw tonight, how good was the tribute?  Did it seem thrown together, or did they really put their effort into it?  Live matches, best of Benoit, what all happened?

It was pretty good.

At 7, 8, and 9 (central time) Vince came on to explain what was going on, how they cancelled tonight's show and instead were going to be hosting a Benoit tribute, then between that they showed his best matches and people telling stories about him.

I saw...

Benoit vs Big Show from RR
Benoit vs Dean Malenko from Hog Wild
Benoit vs Jushin Liger from Japan in 1990 from the DVD
Benoit vs Jericho from RR in the Ladder Match
Benoit vs HBK vs HHH from WM XX
Benoit vs JBL in a cage match from SD

And they showed some clips from his DVD too

WWE.COM has just posted:

"It has been ruled that the deaths of Chris Benoit, his wife Nancy and their son Daniel earlier today were the result of a double murder-suicide from within the home. WWE.com will have more as soon as it becomes available."

Oh my God.

No offense, but how could the program seem anything but thrown together. WWE had perhaps 8-10 hours to put it together. Not exactly enough time to make a spectacular tribute.

WWE.COM has just posted:

Oh my God.

I thought it was very well done, myself.  Comments from guys like Malenko, HHH, Stephanie, Chavo, Cena, Edge, CM Punk... clips from a few of his matches... Royal Rumble 2004, where he won.  Last week's match vs. Elijah Burke on ECW.  An OLD match, Malenko vs. Benoit from Hog Wild 1996 (wow).  Clipped version of Benoit/Jericho Ladder Match from Royal Rumble 2001.  Couple of old interviews with Benoit.. and they closed the show with Wrestlemania XX, where he won the World Title.  Truly bizarre seeing him with Eddie at the end.

Good stuff, good tribute.

How could this happen? How could things be so bad that double murder/suicide had to be the answer?

With little time to prepare it was a fairly decent tribute. Hopefully tomorrow night on ECW they will have something better to show as tribute.

Very sad no matter how you look at it.

to keep things very safe and civil:

1) no posting what you think happened or what you speculate

2) remember at this point nothing is 100% certain....so it could be alot of things...no matter what fox news or wwe.com has said investigators have said PROBABLY....probabl y is not a word that is used in something like this

3) wait until everything is found out and such to pass any judgment on the man that was Chris Benoit

I never thought my eyes would water and I'd get that overwhelming feeling over the death of someone I never met, until Eddie died. Now my friend called me when I was at my Comic Shop. He doesn't usually call me so I was confused. He told me that Benoit, his wife and son were found dead. I got that feeling once again. This is a feeling that you don't get when John Cena dies. You don't get this feeling when Randy Orton dies. This is a feeling you get when someone who youv'e watched for almost 10 years passes away, and you realize you will never see them wrestle a new match.

It's just sad that these major stars were taken from us so early and weren't given the chance to be shown to the newer audience. I'm almost kinda mad that WWE never pushed him again after his 1st WWE title reign. But I'm glad that Vince came out and introduced the show himself, shows that yes he is a business man, but he also cares for his wrestlers.

Just watched the rest of RAW and it did seem thrown together at the last minute but with such shocking news and it happening so sudden that for what it was it was a good job of throwing various footage together. You really cant compare it to Eddie's since they had more time to prepare for a video tribute.

I can see ECW being another type of tribute show with some matches then SD being a "Come if you want" type show where they wrestle in respect of Benoit (kinda like Owen and Eddie when they died).

Oh and to comment on the crap posted about him killing his family and what not. I aint believing a damn thing until something more full proof is posted besides rumors and stuff of that nature. I have been on 5 different sites and all have said different things.

If Smackdown is a "Show up if you want" show, ECW will be too.  They are taped together and if people show up for SD, might as well do an ECW taping too.

And about the murder/suicide thing:  It's what the cops are saying.  I'm not saying it's the final answer... but you can't turn a blind eye to what may have actually happened just because you liked the guy's in ring performance...

Anyone else think this one hurts so much because EVERYONE liked Benoit?  HBK, you hate him or love him...same with Randy, and most every top superstar they have.  Even Taker has his haters, but I've never heard a single person not like Benoit the person+ring technician.

Not saying that I agree with this, just saying this seems to be the most recent:
"Sources in the Fayette County Police Department are now working under the theory that Chris Benoit killed Nancy on Saturday, son Daniel on Sunday, and then killed himself earlier today.

Benoit was found dead in his weight room. Nancy was found dead in the living room. Daniel was found dead in his bedroom, accordig t an unnamed source in the department.

Lt. Tommy Pope told ABC News "the instruments of death were located on the scene," but didn't specify what those were or where they were found. Pope said the department was not actively searching for any suspects outside the house."

first off, i wanna say this.

1) Nothing is certain until its been "proven" and even then, could be wrong.
2) Even if it does turn out to be the double murder suicide, for whatever reason it was, its still a tragedy and i still feel for and will pray for Chris Benoits family.

I turned on Raw and saw the opening tribute, with them playing '1 thing' by Finger 11, and ill say this, i would have started crying if my brother wasnt in the room with me.

The song and Benoits face have been flashing through my head all night.  This hurts alot.

I have to be honest...but I am on the verge of tears tonight...

I met Benoit during the last WrestleMania that was in California at an autograph signing as the first person in line and it was truly a "mark out" moment for me, as he has been (and always will be) one of my true favorite wrestlers of all time - if not the favorite.

I remember leaping out of my chair watching WrestleMania when he won the World title (funny enough, I did the same thing the night he made Sid tap and won the WCW World for the night).  Sad irony that he celebrated with Eddie in the ring that night.

I know that a lot of speculation and then facts will come out in the days ahead...but for now, let's remember the talent that was.

Fayette County, Georgia police are investigating Benoit's house following the discovery of the bodies. Lieutenant Tommy Pope of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department reported to ABC News that sheriffs entered his home on a "welfare check" after missing several appointments, leading to concerns.[85] Pope also stated the police are not searching for any suspects outside of the house, as the instruments of death were located on scene.[86]

The same day Detective Bo Turner of the Fayette County Sheriff's Department told television station WAGA that the case was being treated as a murder-suicide, and the station reported that investigators believe that Benoit killed his wife and son over the weekend, then killed himself on Monday. [87] At present officials continue to investigate and autopsy results are expected on June 26.

and more...
The following is from WWE.com:

According to lead investigator Lt. Tommy Pope, of the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department, in Fayetteville, Ga., the deaths of WWE Superstar Chris Benoit, wife Nancy and son Daniel were the result of a double murder-suicide, WWE.com has learned.

Benoit failed to appear both at Saturday’s live event in Beaumont, Tx., and WWE’s Vengeance: Night of Champions in Houston Sunday night, after informing WWE of a family emergency. Several curious text messages sent by Benoit early Sunday morning prompted concerned friends to alert Richard Hering, VP of Government Relations for WWE, Inc. Hering, in turn, spoke with Fayette County sheriffs Monday, and requested that they respond to the Benoit residence to check on him and his family.

Authorities representing the Sheriff’s Department initially had a difficult time entering Benoit’s new Fayetteville home Monday afternoon, which had been guarded by two large German Shepherds roaming freely around the property. Once authorities entered the residence, they quickly located the bodies of Benoit, Nancy and Daniel. WWE was notified of the discovery at approximately 4 p.m.

At 10 p.m. Monday night, Lt. Pope held a press conference in conjunction with Scott Ballard, the district attorney for Fayette County. The press conference officially ruled authorities’ findings as a double murder-suicide from within the home.

WAGA, a FOX-owned and operated television station in Atlanta, reported that investigators believe Benoit killed his wife and 7-year-old son over the weekend, then himself on Monday.

The three bodies have been received by the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s crime lab, in Decatur, Ga., where autopsies will be performed Tuesday morning. Toxicology reports will not become available for at least two weeks.

WWE.com has further information relating to both the investigation and the cause of death, but the Fayette County Sheriff’s Department has requested that WWE.com not release any additional details at this time.

this is a very sad day indeed

and even if it is true that he killed his wife and kid and then himself, i will prolly never believe it cuse i just dont think that chris is the type of guy to do something like that, after hearing what the other wrestlers said, chris doesnt seem like the kind of guy to just give up so to speak like that

but all in all my condolences to the benoit family

Unfortinatly you can't feel sorry for someone that could kill his own wife and child and himself. I mean I wish it wasn't true. I hope and pray that it's not true, but it seems like it is. Truly a sad ending.

I'm sure whatever happened Benoit did not do it out of hatred. Benoit was one of the hardest workers, nicest people, and civilized human beings out there. JBL said he made his sons say "please and thank you" and that he loved his family more than anything.

Even if he did what they are saying he did, I still have much respect for him as a wrestler, and I'm sure the years of wrestling took a toll on him mentally.

Again we shouldn't start talking about his morals or how bad a person he was before we find out. No one even knows if Benoit was the "murderer" part of the murder-suicide. Police are just speculating right now. Tomorrow we'll know when the autopsy arrives.

Why don't we all just wait and hear the details.

Speculating will not solve anything. All we know is Chris Benoit, his wife, and son are dead. Details are sketchy at best. So let's wait and hear what they find out with the autopsies and bloodwork.

People, please. I, and I'm sure many others, are not at this time in a very receiving mood for any of this.

Joe: The experts have made a theory. A hypothesis that they will test during the autopsies. It may or may not actually be correct. Sometimes, the most absurd option is the correct one. All I ask is that you wait for the police to do their work before calling people asses. Please?

Alucard: Maybe. Who knows. There's a possibility.

Chris: Your work ethic inside the ring and your perseverance outside the ring have influenced me and how I live my life greatly for the better. For that, I owe you more then I could ever repay you. Please, rest in peace.

And thank you.
