Does anyone here on TCO play Blood Bowl? The game has been around for a long time, but I just found out about it like a year and a half ago and last month a few players that have been playing a long time started up a league at my local gaming store. For those who don't know what Blood Bowl is it is a fantasy football miniatures/board game by Games Workshop. It's basically Warhammer Fantasy football. It's a very fun game.

But they came out with a video game on XBox (and PC) for it last month and I was wondering if anyone here would be interested in starting up a TCO Blood Bowl league?

And if your interested in the game in general you can download the rules for free:

The game is 50% off this week ($20.00) on the PC. It's a great deal seeing as you pretty much get every team in the game (buying a team in real life would run $50-$120) and it's the exact same as the tabletop version. If anyone has the game already or buys it let me know, I'd love to get a TCO league running.

Best bet is ebay or buying the starter set. If you get one off ebay try and find one with the dugouts and templates. You can also go here for mats instead of a board (make sure it's for Blood Bowl and not Elf Ball).

Also a good way to get "official" cheap block dice is by joining The NAF (www.thenaf.net). A years membership costs $10 and you get a set of block dice, and the color changes every year.

Only play Warhammer Fantasy/40k Sad

You can easily use your WFB or 40k minis for Blood Bowl. And you can download the rules for free (in the first post).

Just trying to spread the word because this game is really awesome!  Grin

I've never stopped playing Blood Bowl although I haven't had a local game in 3 years since I moved to Tallahassee.  I bought the PC version when it came out and I highly suggest it. I don't play online and I've heard horror stories about people disconnecting to preserve ratings and the like.

I'd suggest making your own pitch from either presentation cardboard or thin plywood with paint.  The GW minis can be VERY expensive from their direct store but you can often find teams at a reasonable price.

Recently I completed modifications on 2 skavens (for some reason I didn't have gutter runners so I converted 2 Mordheim figures from the local bargain bin) and added some green stuff to balance out the body of the impact werebear (it was too thin in some places) with the piece de resistance being a conversion of the GW Yehtee for the Snow troll.

When i moved to Tallahassee in '08, I stripped and repainted everything. I'd started reading more painting sites and was able to improve my results after learning things like thinning.

My current teams
Skaven (in Green Bay colors) with 2 mutants, the star player Rat Ogre and 2 other fantasy Rat Ogres from back when you could field 2
Norse (in Minnesota colors but needing touchup after I mistook primer for clear coat)
Orc/Goblin - partially painted, short 9 goblins and 1 or 2 orcs to be able to make both teams (in FSU local colors) - i think the goblins were for an underworld team and the orcs came with a pitch I found locally with a few modified fantasy orcs to fill some missing spots
High Elves with Prince Moradian
Plastic Humans I started painting in Miami Dolphins colors (to experiment with teal and orange) including a metal Griff Oberwald.

If anyone is interested, the High Elves are absolutely for sale. I just repainted the base edges and clear coated them so they are very pretty indeed in their White, Silver and Purple.  I'll try and link to some pictures asap.

For dice, I wrote down the standard D-6 conversion so if you don't have real dice you can play. the NAF was a year behind sending me mine but when they did, they sent 3 so I'm real big on joining NAF (1: skull, 2: Both Down, 3-4: Push, 5: Defender Stumbles, 6: POW!)

If you are looking at ebay DO NOT buy from Midgard models. It isn't that there is anything wrong with them, but I'll paint you a set to a higher standard (my OCD won't let me paint crap) much cheaper because I enjoy it.

The current Warhammer Fantasy starter set (Island of Blood) includes 40 clan rats and 2 ogres. 1 ogre and 15 clan rats is enough to build an entire team (but you would have to modify the figs to represent different positions and i think remove weapons)

Current good deals on ebay
5 Ogres dirt cheap. You would need a buttload of snotlings. Ogres are a high difficulty team to play.http://cgi.ebay.com/Ogre-Blood-Bowl-Team-5-Metal-Models-Bloodbowl-/270745346785?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item3f09ae22e1

Another Ogre team using fantasy models. Decent price. http://cgi.ebay.com/Custom-Blood-Bowl-Ogre-Team-/170631157993?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item27ba68d8e9

Decent starter for a Chaos team that you could fill in with singles from an online bits/singles store http://cgi.ebay.com/Blood-Bowl-Chaos-Team-11-models-/150600908953?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item2310838099

OLD Orc figures but still at a cheap price (16 bucks) http://cgi.ebay.com/Blood-Bowl-Orc-Team-25mm-/320693899448?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash=item4aaad890b8

If anyone has more questions, let me know.

They fixed most of that now from what I understand (haven't been playing on the PC for long, but I haven't had any problems). If someone disconnects you still get the win, 2 TDs, and their MVP and winnings. I think there were ways around it before but like I said they fixed most of the bugs. You just have to stay away from some of the open leagues (like the one where you can join with teams that aren't brand new, can't remember the name of it) because there are a lot of farmed teams on them. There are some good private leagues you can join where the commissioners kick out cheaters and farmed teams, so you don't have to worry about any of that crap.

http://boardgamegeek.com/boardgame/90137/blood-bowl-team-manager-the-card-game

Game description from the publisher:

Blood Bowl: Team Manager - The Card Game is a bone-breaking, breathtaking standalone card game of violence and outright cheating for two to four players. Chaos, Dwarf, Wood Elf, Human, Orc, and Skaven teams compete against each other over the course of a brutal season. Customize your team by drafting Star Players, hiring staff, upgrading facilities, and cheating like mad. Lead your gang of misfits and miscreants to glory over your rivals all to become Spike! Magazine's Manager of the Year!

Once a manager has chosen one of the six teams, he has five weeks to groom them into the best in the league, culminating with the Blood Bowl tournament. He does this by competing at highlights, collecting payouts, upgrading his personnel, and drafting Star Players.

Managers begin the season with a starting team deck full of basic scrub players. These players are none too bright and have limited talents, but a clever manager can play to their strengths by carefully positioning them to excel on the pitch.

Is your team ready to compete against other teams in head-to-head highlights? Highlights are the randomly determined matchups over which players compete. The more highlights a team wins, the more it improves and the more fans it accumulates.

The season culminates with the Blood Bowl tournament. After the Blood Bowl, the season ends. Players then tally up their total fans and the manager with the most fans wins the game.

I demoed Blood Bowl Fantasy Manager at gencon this year, and it was a blast. I picked it up when we got it in at the store, and have played a few games. Each one feels different and the results are usually pretty close, leading to some epic games.

makes me want to play the 360 one.

There hasn't been a copy that's made it into one of the stores I visit yet. I'm wanting to get him hands on this game.

We got 6 in I think and are down to 2 within 3 days. 2 of them are due to me demoing it.
I dig the game a lot, and im having my wife sew together a felt field spaced enough to play the game. When I did a couple demos I used some green felt to give the feel of a "foosball field" and people got a kick out of the idea. So im going to take it further and see what it does for sales.
