Since the last post was in July of 2012, I thought I would try to reanimate this section of the forum with some of my recent tournament results. I took the Guild quiz http://www.wizards.com/magic/quiz/quiz.aspx?x=mtg/quiz/guild and got Orzhov so I tried to use that as a guideline for guild selection.

Return to Ravnica Pre-release
I choose a Rakdos box, and my rares from the box were:
  • Trostani, Selesnya's Voice
  • Cryptborn Horror
  • Azor's Elocutors
  • Slaughter Games
  • Growing Ranks
  • Temple Garden

Unfortunately, my pool of red and black cards was pretty poor despite the guild pack so I built a GWU deck using my rares and much better other colors.

Round 1: Win
I played an Izzet guy who rarely had the advantage or rarely pressed it when he did. I won a game with the Elocutors and another with creature damage.

Round 2: Loss
I had an answer for each of this guy's Izzet cards in Game 1. However, card advantage won him Game 2, and lack of mana lost me Game 3.

Round 3: Loss
I faced a Golgari opponent and lost to Intimidate in both games.

Round 4: Loss
Similar Golgari deck to Round 3. I won a game with the Elocutors, and technically drew the last game to time as the kid (a new player) did not realize he could give intimidate to multiple creatures. Being the nice guy, I conceded the last match so that the kid could get his pack for winning.

Gatecrash Pre-release
I choose an Orzhov box, and my rares from the box were:
  • Obzedat, Ghost Council
  • Obzedat, Ghost Council
  • Gruul Ragebeast
  • Borborygmos Enraged
  • Frontline Medic
  • Mind Grind

I went with my Orzhov colors of W and B and had some decent Extort to boot.

Round 1: Win
I played a Simic deck and beat it with Obzedat and some bad mana on his part. At one point, he animated a land, and I destroyed it to make the situation worse. I did lose one game to a bird mutant with Forced Adaptation on it.

Round 2: Win
Another Orzhov player except that he got worse rares and little extort.

Round 3: Win
Boros with Green. I lost one game when he was actually able to use Battalion. Otherwise, I destroyed his creatures one-by-one in the other two games and dominated the board.

Round 4: Draw
Another Boros. We drew the games, and played again for fun, which he won.  Decks were pretty even.

I got 4 packs for placing 3-0-1 and pulled:
  • Frontline Medic
  • Enter the Infinite
  • Boros Reckoner
  • Rubblebelt Raiders
